Did you think Lindsay Vonn's husband was kind of a jerk?

After realizing she just won the gold in downhill skiing, she fell into his arms crying in relief. And he basically showed NO emotion, just "you did it". I wanted him to scream it, ya know?!! He just stood there and you could tell she wanted someone to share her excitement! Ugh. I was kinda sad for her at that moment.

He may just have been stilted because he knew the cameras were right there. Some men aren't comfortable with big emotion anyway, let alone in front of millions of people. Or maybe that's just his everyday personality, more stoic than she is. Tough to say.

Some people are very stoic, doesn't necessarily mean he is a jerk.

I don't think that's jerky. Some people are more stoic than others, and it could also be that the cameras were making him more stiff.

I don't know--the first thing out of his mouth was "amazing, you are just amazing". That was pretty nice. The conclusion at our house was that SHE is a drama queen :lmao:.

It is cool that she won. On a clear night I can see the glow of the lights from the ski hill she learned to ski on from my house. We can say that we have skied the same hill as an Olympic gold medalist :lmao:.

Ya, I agree. I was still so frustrated for her, she just acheived her dream, and he was telling her to stop crying.:sad2:

He was just relieved that he wouldn't have to hear about her shin injury every morning on the Today show anymore.

She doesn't appeal to me one bit. I'd rather listen to the Flying Tomato's coach.

I saw him in an interview this morning and he was very supportive of her and appeared quite proud. He seems to be a low-key kind of guy.

Apparently, her mom also said that she'd never seen her react that way to anything EVER, so he may also have been taken aback by the huge outpouring of emotion from her.

Or to see Matt Lauer DROOL all over her again. I've started watching the local news instead of the Lindsay/Matt show... :sad2:

Me, too. I usually watch "Today," but I've switched to George Stephanoplous, Stepanofulus, oh whatever. The Today show is trying wayyyy too hard to make Lindsay Vonn the darling of the media and the big story of the Olympics. Boring.

I thought she was drooling over Matt.

My husband is pretty reserved too. I imagine he'd be quietly thrilled for me too.

I thought he was great! Very supportive, and I think they're a very close pair, and she's an amazing athlete! The first US woman to win an Olympic downhill! I think that not many of you were around in the 60's and 70's when the European skiers dominated the alpine field. I was there, and met members of the French ski team during practice in Aspen. No US skiier even came close in 1964 or 1968. As far as the Today show, I don't for a minute believe anything is amiss. ABC did Olympic coverage for years (mostly in black & white, Jim McKay...) and it was wonderful. Certainly not today's technology! Shaun White got a lot more coverage than Lindsey Vonn....on the Today show. It's probably not a good idea to read something into what isn't even there. I support all of Team USA! I'm not trying to be sarcastic or argumentative here.

I thought he was very sweet. He knew she had to do a million interviews and was trying to be the calming force so that she could get through it.

She is a real drama queen, I can only imagine how it must be to deal with her day in and day out. I am reminded very much of Gennice from "The Understudy" episode of Seinfeld.

I wouldn't say a jerk - but I didn't know it was her dh at first - just figured it was a good friend/coach until the kiss & then the announcer said it was her dh. I just think he's probably just over the floodgates & knowing that the cameraman was right there in their face was maybe embarressed for her (& himself) He at least consoled her & did't push her away(that's what I'd call a jerk)

that's Tom, right?

after she won, the first one I believe, they showed her crying in his arms and he was saying all kinds of sweet and supportive things and telling her she deserves it, etc. It was such a close, personal, and sweet moment it felt like we shouldn't have been listening in actually.:)

Yep, that would be my DH. He has this wall up that the public rarely, I don't think EVER, sees his feeling side. It can play havoc with things when he doesn't react like people "think he should" for situations. They don't get to see beyond the wall that I get to see.

I wouldn't have thought much of it.
