Did you regret getting bunkbeds at your resort?

I thought bunkbeds would be fun but I read a post where someone said that she was anxious a lot of the time during their resort stay because of trying to keep her small child off of the bunk ladder. Our girls will be 7 & 2 and I thought that bunks would be fun for my older child and that my peanut would just sleep with us. I can SOOOO see me pulling my 2 year old off of the bunk ladder the whole time and using that frustrated mommy voice too much. I probably won't get bunks now. Did any one get them and regret it? Any other reasons why?

I have always had luck with the bunk beds and the kids love them. I remember 2 years ago we stayed in a gorgeous room with a seperate bunk area for 4 kids. I worried a bit beforehand but my 2 year old tried maybe once and that was it. I think she may have been a been afraid so just stayed where she belonged. We have gotten other bunk rooms after that and the same thing. Maybe Im just blessed with a good kid. My other daughter is almost 2 years older and never had a big problem with her getting on or off. From the start i made sure she was aware this wasnt a play area it was for resting & sleeping.

Are you talking about WDW resorts or just hotels in general? Do they do this at WDW? Because that would be fun!

I regretted last summer when we stayed at FW, the girls were 5 and 3 and both had several falls. It was a novelty to them and they just would not stay off them and despite out attempts to show them how to safely get up and down...they still fell. It got to the point just 2 days into the trip that i locked the bedroom door and I had to sleep in that room at night b/c DD fell one night getting up to use the bathroom.

We did bunk beds when we stayed at the WL and the AKL with no regrets. We do not have bunkbeds at home so it was exciting to them. Our daughters had a blast with no fallls during each trip. They were 3 & 5 and 4 & 7.

My youngest was 3 1/2 when we went in February. We had bunk beds. We didn't have any problems. But we also have bunk beds at home, so I guess it wasn't a big deal to us.

This is one of those things that will totally depend on your child. Some 2 year olds have no problem with bunks and never try to climb up the ladder. They are either that well behaved, calm, or just not a risk taker. Others, like my wild man, think they can do everything and climb anything!!!

My oldest has bunk beds in his room at home, my 2y/0 is not allowed in his brothers room alone because he will climb up and jump off. :scared1: We actually took the ladder down because of this. Good luck making a decision. Only you know how your kids may react.

The bunkbeds at AKL are one of my kids' favorite memories of our trip (goes to show you sometimes it's the little things...) My kids were fine with it and rotated turns at night and even for hang out time.

Is there a minimum age that kids are allowed in the top bunk at Disney?? I assume any age can go in the lower one??:confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I regret getting them at home! Did you know....

If you jump on the top bunk while Mommy is in the shower you can actually break the slats that hold the top mattress up?

AND...

If you pretend you are asleep and your parents go downstairs to finally relax you can lean WAAAYYY over the edge to talk to your sister and do a flip and fall out of bed and crack your tailbone?

Oh AND...

If Mommy is in the shower again (still can't figure out why that woman feels the need to bathe! :lmao: ) you can tie a jumprope (that is supposed to be in your backpack) to the ladder and the other end to your dresser knob and pretend it is a trap for wild animals? Uh huh - and when your younger siblings, the wild animals, come in they will get caught in the trap and pull and pull until the dresser falls over and breaks!

Yep, bunkbeds are SUPER. :rotfl2: Needless to say - they are gone from our house NEVER to return. ;)

Our son was a bit under 2 yrs when we had bunk beds at the WL. Our 7 year old slept in the op bunk and the toddler slep in the bottom bunk with bedrails. We had a blast and enjoyed the extra room. I don't remember the ladder being an issue.

Omma, oh my!!!

We had a bunk bed room at WL in Feb. It was the only courtyard view available. DD4 tried the top bunk one night, but decided that she didn't like it and just used the bottom bed from then on. That was fine with us because she's used to a full-size bed at home so she kept ending up sideways in the bunk.

If I remember correctly, there is a sign on the bunk beds that the top bed is not for use by anyone under age 6.

we LOVED having the bunk beds. The kids actually got decent sleep. There was no "HE'S TOUCHING ME!!!" or "SHE STOLE THE COVERS!!!" they were 8 and 5 last year. We will do bunk beds until they are too tall to sleep in them!

As my step kids are a little older they didn't test me when I told them that the ladder was not an attraction. We also have bunks at home, so they weren't that big of a thrill. Plus we'd told my step son when he was small that you have to at least 7 to be on the top bunk. :lmao: He's got another year to go!

I think with kids younger than 5, bunks may be too much hassle if they are so fascinated by the ladder they can't resist!

We've only had them last yr when we had a stay at Nick Suites - and our boys LOVED having them. It definitely helped them with having their own space...

I have two very active little boys and a seven year old girl, I would never be able to stay in a room with bunk beds, they would definately try to jump off of them. My boys are "just that way" I would not take the chance. However I am sure that other families would not have that problem. I wanted to stay at AKL for my next trip, and for a family of 5 bunkbbeds are one of the options, but I will have to find somewhere else that could fit us better. I have to watch them closely if we stay at the Poly and have a second floor with a balcony. :scared1:

bunk beds (AKL) were perfect for us! dd was 4, and slept in the top bunk. my mom slept in the bottom & dh & i were in the queen (king? can't remember). it was ideal! my mom was very comfy and dd was nervous enough about the ladder to not mess around on it.

We loved the bunk beds when we stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge. The only problem we had was because my kids often fell asleep in the car on the way back to the hotel. We would just carry them in and squeeze them both on the bottom bunk when this happened.
