I guess. Income doubled with two people working instead of one. She had debt when we got married, I didn't. But 41 years later I think it's all a wash.

no.....we were in high school and both then went to college. Very poor.
Glad we had parents to help us now and then, but they were by no means wealthy.

I had a decent job, she was in law school. I helped pay her student loans so it was tight at first. Her family is in pretty good shape and she got some land we were able to build on so I’d say in a way yes? But we have helped each other.

Yes, but I didn't know it at the time. My in-laws, like my parents, were depression era folks and extremely thrifty, but unlike my parents, they had quite a bit saved up.

My MIL (an only child) inherited some money from her parents and decided to use that money to pay for all 8 of her grandchildren to attend college. We will be eternally grateful for her generosity and hope to be able to do the same for our grandkids.

None of us are exactly the Rockerfellers but my family had substantially more means than DH's. Their estate eventually gave us a leg-up we wouldn't have had otherwise. DH's parents were divorced and his mother died penniless; we supported her substantially in her later years. His father managed to accumulate a decent amount. Alas, he was not a generous man, either materially or in spirit, so as far as any of his children know, he had it all buried with him.
