I just heard they are now serving a lo carb whopper - basically it is their whopper without the bun. They serve it in a plastic tray with a fork and knife.

It has 3 net grams of carbs vs 53 grams of carbs with the bun

So.....do they charge the same price as a regular Whopper?

Do you notice how some places charge you MORE to leave out the unwanted parts? Like some low-salt soups and broths. I realize it's probably because (in this example) the 'production' of the product may be more expensive because it's different than the normal process/production facilities they alread have in place, but it's kind of anoying, huh?

I've used the whopper as an emergency dinner once or twice already, just tossed the bun when I got home. Although now I think I'll give Subway a try when my next 'food emergency' arises....it seems a little more wholesome.

The more restaurants/fast food places that are offering options for us all, the better!

Thanks for the info - DH and I love Whoppers but haven't had one for quite a while!

I'm a vegetarian, but sometimes I soooo wish I ate meat! I can smell that Whopper (with bacon & cheese, please) right now!:scratchin

I tried the Carl's Jr. Six Dollar burger today. It's HUGH! Costs about $4.25 with tax and is very filling...wrapped in lettuce, with tomatoes, pickles, onion, mayo and mustard. It's served in a paper wrapper and you eat it by pealing back the paper...not too messy!

Here's the info from Burger King, as for the cost I am sure they would say that the plate, knife and fork cost as much as the bun and the piece of paper they wrap it in!

I wonder if Wendy's is going to do this, you still can't beat a Wendy's triple for pure filling power!

Here's a news release:

Burger King to Market Bunless Whoppers

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Burger King Corp. is joining the low-carbohydrate parade by offering bunless Whopper hamburgers and, soon, salads featuring steak, chicken and shrimp.

The bunless sandwiches, which will be available nationwide beginning Tuesday, will come in plastic salad bowls, with knife and fork.

Dieters also will be able to order Whopper meals that substitute salads for French fries and bottled water for soft drinks.

Burger King, the nation's No. 2 hamburger chain, suggests that its restaurants charge the same for burgers with or without the bun. Because most of its stores are franchised, the company cannot mandate prices in them.

While bunless burgers will be available in all 8,000 U.S. restaurants immediately, the new salad line will debut in phases. Those featuring chicken and shrimp will roll out in February and March, but steak versions won't appear systemwide until May.

"It took us a little longer to get the quality we wanted," Russ Klein, Burger King's chief global marketing officer, said of the sirloin steak strips option.

Burger King's introduction of low-carb fare follows that of some competitors. CKE Restaurants Inc.'s Hardee's and Carl's Jr. chains feature burgers wrapped in lettuce.

McDonald's Corp. restaurants in New York City have posters and brochures advising customers how they can lower their carbohydrate intake by modifying what they order. Wendy's International Inc. has similar nutritional information posted on the Web.

Burger King also is debuting a Web site, www.haveityourway.com, that shows how many carbohydrates, calories and fat each meal component contains.

One Midwestern Burger King franchisee who asked not to be identified said that customers had been coming into his restaurants for years ordering Whoppers without the buns, "so all we're doing is formalizing a process."

Burger King is owned by a group of investor firms, including Texas Pacific Group, Bain Capital and Goldman Sachs Capital Partners.

I just did some math thanks to Disfan1 posting the link to the BK site. If you eat a Whopper with the bun it has 710 calories (43 grams of fat and 52 grams of carbs). I don't think so! If you take off the bun and the ketchup those figures change to 435 calories (38 grams of fat and only 3 grams of carbs). Much better. Just thought I would share.

I was astounded to find the innocent looking sesame seed bun has a staggering 5 grams of fat, 260 calories and 45 carb grams! As a side point, you can also get your burger minus the mayo and save yourself 160 calories and 18 more fat grams. So, let the eater (and buyer) beware!

And thanks BK for making my burger eating a little bit more pleasant not to mention SBD friendly (not that I will eat there frequently or anything;) ).

I'm so excited! I've always have loved BK whoppers! :teeth:

I have never been a big fan of Burger King, but this is good to know because DH LOVES this place and usually I end up eating somewhere else whenever he has a BK attack!:p

This is great. I too have always loved Whoppers but haven't had one in awile because of the nutrional info. Now that I am lo carbing I think I'll let myself have 1 for a "treat' every now and then. My DD's school has a BK night once a month, as a fund raiser, which just happens to be this coming Monday so I think I'll have a bunless Whopper!

I went to BK today for lunch, and ordered a whopper without the bun. It came in a small plastic container, almost like they would use for a baked potato. It was so nice NOT to have to pull off the bun, and lose half the cheese or mayo. (I order them without tomatos ((cause them things are nasty!)) and it also seemed to have very little ketchup, which was fine with me).
