Mostly. For grades 5-7 I was bused for integration.

The town I grew up in had several Elementary schools and I went to the one that was for the section of town we lived in. It was about a 10 minute drive. We only had 1 Junior High, also about a 10 minute drive away, and 1 High School which was about a 10 minute walk.

There were two schools in the immediate area, and I actually went to them both at the same time. One for most of my education, and the other for shop and home economics because the first school didn't have those facilities.

Except for my Freshman year of High School, yes. Half a mile to my elementary school. One mile to my Junior High School. 2 miles to my High school.
My Freshman year I went to a private high school that was 6 miles away. It wasn't a good fit so I went back to Public high school.

I went to the nearest Catholic school for grammar school. For high school I went pretty far away so I had to take the subway.

When? I went to a Catholic school 1-5 that was a few miles away. Then a neighborhood elementary school for 6th grade. My junior high school was actually further away but the school maps were drawn that way. Then I finally went to a high school that was a little bit closer to home than the next closest. But at public school these were all about location assignments based on home address.

I went to the closest possible comprehensive college for my undergraduate degree. Even the closest community college wasn't as close. I heard there was an accredited four year degree granting school in my hometown at the time, but it was a seminary.
