Did you go to Disney as a child?

I was thinking (Not again! HUH?), it seems to be that most of the Disney magic comes from reliving the experiences that you had as a child. The world seems so perfect in Disney World (most of the time). Do you think it's because we are remembering life as a child, before we ever really experienced "grown up" issues. I wonder if adults, going to WDW for the first time are thinking "what is wrong with all of these grown up disney addicts!" LOL Just wondering what you all think. :)

I grew up in Fl in Ocala, about an hour drive from WDW. We went all the time as kids, but once a year our entire family went together and it was GREAT. I loved going with all my cousins, it made it twice as fun!! Now I can go with my kids and use the "excuse" that their excitement is contagious.;)

I think most people that like Disney World are the type of people that can remember their child hood and enjoy it. And i think that adults that have very stressful lives enjoy the innocents there and the layed back envirment of it.

For me, some of it is definitely remembering life as a child. I grew up in South Florida and spent plenty of time in Disney starting when I was four in 1973. One of the few vacations I remember with my parents before they divorced. I think that's why I miss Mr. Toad so much. I remember standing in line just hoping to get Mr. Toad's name on my car!

never went out of our county nevermind our country as kids(there were 6 of us kids)America was always a distant dream.i remember my mum saying if we ever won the pools(lottery)we would go there.31 years later she's still trying to win the lottery:)

I went for the first time at age 6. I think the fact that I went as a child, made going as an adult more magical. Who knows if I'd have such a love for all things Disney otherwise? Yikes, don't want to think about that!!!

No I never went as a child and I was born in Sanford, Fl.
My first time there I was 17 and only got to spend one day between the MK and Epcot (they were the only 2 parks then).
Finally got back in 2000 with my husband and we had such a great time we went back 5 more times, our 6th is in Jan. 2005

The first time I ever went to WDW, I was 15. I had fun, but...

I went to DL at 25 and had a total blast!!

Went to DL again when on honeymoon.

Convinced DH to take a quick anniversary getaway trip (off site) to WDW when we were stationed in FL, and DD1 was conceived on that trip.

Absolutely fell in love with WDW last summer when experiencing it thru my DDs (then 4 and 22 months).

DD1 (now 5 1/2) keeps asking when we can go back!!

Nope...My first trip was at age 18 with my now DH's family. Now they on the otherhand went to WDW the first year it opened and almost every year there after.

I definately think their love of Disney rubbed off on me. We have taken several trips together with them and it is such a nice thing we share.

My DS was introduced by a cast member to a young lady he still keeps in contact with (we have been 2 Christmases that they have been there and are planning a 3rd). My DD keeps asking to take her BF as well so he will "get it".

At 9 years old in 1978 I went to West Palm Beach with my dad to my GP's trailer they had there. We went to Disney for 1 day and it rained almost all day while we were there. Not a fond memory for my first ever trip to WDW. After that trip I had no desire to go back until my now DW's parents took us in 96 for the 25th anniversary celebration.

Nope. Disney wasn't in the cards for our family as my mom and dad were sensible people.......Disneyland was fairy tale stuff and we didn't DO things like that. LOL

Our family vacations were filled with stress and angst, making sure we saw EVERYTHING and got the most out of a day, no relaxation or fun whatsoever *can you say commando? i thought you could!* Our vacations were seriously NOT fun!

I was in my mid 30's when I first went to DW and I had to be talked into going. Now they have to talk me into NOT going. :p

Nope..I never got to WDW till I was 31 years old with my kids.

My parents felt that vacations should be spent doing free things, seldom wanted to spend money to go into places. We visited factories for tours, like brewery tours, cloth factory tours, car plant tours, went swimming for free in the local lake, or drove to the ocean for one day swimming and home same day...my folks were cheap to say the least.....:(

Yes, I was there on opening day at WDW. We only lived one hour away and I went many, many times while growing up. Now, that I have my dd, it is fun to rediscover WDW.

Nope, never went on a vacation anywhere as a child. Took my first real vacation when I was 24. Didn't get to WDW until I was 26 and it was just MK.

There was no WDW when I was a kid. :( My family didn't have the money to go to DL so I was in my mid-30's before I had my first trip to WDW.

Funny story... When I was 19 I spent some extended time in the Ft. Lauderdale area. I was down there with a couple of friends. One day we decided to drive up to Orlando to see what Disney was building. I can't remember how long we were on the road but it seemed like a VERY long time. When we finally looked at a map, we saw we were only about 1/2 way there. At that point we turned around and went home. I now wish we had completed the journey.
