Let's ask this question a different way. Were you able to get your first choice in resort when booking in the 7 month window or did you have to settle for another resort.

What was your first choice? What resort did you get?

Quoted from my other thread, and something that is worth considering: difficult requests:

"As for first choice rentals I agree it could sway the #'s. But should I also add a field for people who request BWV standard view on Christmas Eve? Or a poll field for how many people didn't get their requests becuase they needed a "2-bedroom, non-smoking, no lock off, room 2234 with a view of the left side of Mickey's tooth, that is 12 feet from SAB blah blah blah..." it cuts both ways..."

No it doesn't "cut both ways". If buy at VB and you expect to get a BWV Standard View for NYE at the 7 month window you will be disappointed. That's the point. Additional requests that cannot be reserved or guaranteed by MS and have no part in this poll.

I cant agree with this reasoning. A first choice resort is a normal general everyday wish. Alot of people are going to have this desire. Your examples are exceptions, polls arent designed to take into account every exception. These will be no where near as many in number as the general wish of first choice reosrt

I'm not sure how to answer this because I've booked at less than 7 months several times.

All but once I took what was available...what I expected to be available...

The one time I didn't I waitlisted and it came through eventually.

Also, I've never had a problem getting whatever I wanted at exactly 7 months...is was our trips planned just a couple months or weeks out that we had few options. I don't think I've ever called and had nothing available at all. There is almost always something available at OKW....at least in my personal experience.

Yes. I just switched the first 13 nights of my ressie at SSR to BWV (preferred). There was no availability at Standard view (to be expected ;)) and I was offered the BW view on my first two calls (I booked about 3 nights at a time rather than day by day). However I chose to stick with Preferred because MS said there was not much availabilty for BW view and sure enough on my last call there was only preferred. I am very happy :)

This is for Sat Aug 13th - Friday Aug 26th

I've had a great experience booking at the 7 month window so far. One time was for the Food and Wine Festival at BCV--when I called MS (I booked it day by day) I had a choice of all types of rooms at BCV and all preferred rooms at BWV (except for Grand Villas). There weren't many left at each resort, but it wasn't nearly as difficult as I imagined. The same is true for our trip to BCV this May for the Flower and Garden festival! :flower:

We booked a studio at OKW for the end of January at five months out with no problem at all.

Hmmm ... Interesting. So far it looks like 65% did get their first choice and 45% did not. I'm bumping to see if we can get some more responses :).

I think the anwers would depend on the time of year, size villa and resort. Peak DVC times at smaller resorts or GVs might be tough. Other times it might not be much of a problem at all.

I have gotten my first preference at 7 months for size and resort except for one time. We had not stayed at BWV and were going to give it a try (please no flames, but it doesn't tempt me) and so got something at our second choice. We have traveled in May and October only.
These represent my experiences only.

Don't you just love the dancing banana!!

I received at 7 month window

last oct OKW--5 night stay--lower points

for my upcoming trip--I transfered day by day from SSR to VWL and BCV

I always book at the 11 month window and then go from there at the 7 month window.

I booked a 2 bdr. at SSR at 11 months and then switched to BCV at 7 months. I did it day by day. (July 3-8, 2005 - :cool1: )

Just booked OKW 1 bdr for Labor Day weekend! Our first DVC trip!

Last year I booked a studio at BCV in May for September. No problem at 4 months out booking this. Then the hurricanes came and we were able to cancel without penalty. So in September I booked a studio at the BCV for the weekend before Thanksgiving. We arrived on Friday and checked out on Tuesday. I was very happy and surprised we were able to get it.

Btw, my only request was non-smoking.

well, I think these poll results are encouraging actually rather than discouraging. 74% get their first choice, 79% on my poll so maybe we can infer on my poll 5% arent getting 1st choice and have an alternate??

Ill ask it a different way. encouraging in what way? you seem to go back and forth, are you or are you not trying to dismiss the notion of buy where you want to stay?

if you are flexible you can most of the time get your first choice resort and probably always get your second or third choices, this I agree with, BUT again this is not what the whole point to all these polls was.

All these polls started to see if your theory of not needing to buy where you wanted to stay was a good theory.

and as this poll shows only 60% of people seem to get their first choice without waitlisting.

To me this is not encouraging at all if you are one of the ones who has one certain resort you want to stay at.

besides if you are flexible what do you really care what the results of this poll are anyway? you'll always get a room somewhere more than likely.

I think it's going to depend on what time of year you are trying to get & the resort. I just booked yesterday, at 7-1/2 monthes out actually, for a 1 bedroom BWV preferred boardwalk view, non-smoking & got it with no problem. We were booking for the end of Sept., which is low season though.

I agree with both of you. Its very encouraging if you dont really care where you end up (may as well own VB-not that there is anything wrong with that), and if you do care you still need to own where you really want to stay and then occassionally can get another choice for maybe that "extra" trip you have points for. We know we can always get BCV for spring break and VWL for Christmas because we own at those and we know we want those choices. Now we also know we can book OKW most anytime and I am pretty sure SSR because of its size most anytime at least when it gets bigger, BWV may be a little tougher (esp if you want std view or BW view and would love to add on there) but we have stayed there fairly easily in the summer-our other chance to go with kids.
