Did you get your e-ring appraised?

I have to say I've been going insane over the last week. I sent my e-ring out through my jeweler to get re-sized. I keep having nightmares that my stone is going to be replaced.
Anyway, I have a certificate for insurance from the jeweler, but should I still get it appraised?

I think everyone should get it appraised, especially if it didn't come with one. You should get it for your own personal insurance purposes. After a certain dollar amount,I think $1,000, it is not covered under homeowners.

I wouldn't worry about it going to be sized, if you used a reputable jeweler, you shouldn't have an issue.

Congratulations

Our family jeweler created my e-ring and appraised it. I got it insured before he ever put it in the mail. It's a part of our homeowner's insurance. I would DEFINITELY get it not only appraised, but insured!

That was one of the things that I loved about my fiancé that day. When he gave me the ring it was already appraised and insured. It is not in his nature to think of such things so I suspect his mother reminded him to do it!

If you want to get insurance on it you will have to get it appraised.

Like Raenstoirm, my DH had mine appraised before he gave it to me. He was so proud to show me the appraisal a couple hours after he proposed - Hahaha!! We have the ring on a whole separate policy, not part of our homeowner's. We did that because in FL we were likely to have our homeowner's insurance dropped (which it was last year) and this way I don't have to find another insurer for the ring (our new homeowners does not do riders for jewelry).

Our jeweler recommended us getting it appraised right away. We have a 30 day return policy that if the ring is appraised much lower than what we paid we can get our money back. Also, for insurance purposes definitely get it done. My boss's wife was mowing the lawn last weekend and her diamond popped right out of her ring!! :scared1: Thankfully it was insured.

Our jeweler automatically had it appraised. In order to get it insured, you will have to send a copy of the appraisal.

Does your diamond have a GIA (Gem. Institute of America) report on it? If so, chances are your diamond has a laser inscription on it. You can always have someone check when you get it back to make sure the inscription on the diamond matches the certificate.

Oh, that's true, I forgot about that! Mine has an ID number lasered into it (you have to have one of those super powerful jewelers loops to even find it!) and it matches the ID number on my certificate.

As everyone else said, definitely get it appraised and insured. Mine has its own insurance policy, that is in addition to homeowners but through the same agent.

Our jeweler also recommended some insurance agencies that you can use just for jewelry, we didn't go that route but that's an option, too.

If your ring does not have an ID number, you can still get one. My diamond is my DH's gmoms and he had it reset in a new setting. When we went to get my wedding band, we found a band at a different store than he purchased the ering setting. The jeweler set up the ring to be appraised and lazer id'd as part of our package in buying the wedding band. We had a "mark" in the diamond that was identifiable through the microscope thing they use so when we got it back with the laser, we still knew it was the diamond. Like others said, to get it insured you need it appraised.

Mine came with a certification and appraisal. I almost passed out when I read it, lol.
