Did you get any presents that made you go hmmmm...

Just remember hampsters are nocturnal creatures. You cannot keep this in DD's room at night. :faint:

Yes and we have to find a place that it will be safe from the two cats!! :p

The girls were so funny when they opened the gift ---

"HAMPSTER STUFF - WE DON'T EVEN HAVE A HAMPSTER!?! WHAT ARE WE GONNA DO WITH HAMPSTER STUFF?!"

Then they found the money to buy the little critter - still weren't thrilled but at least understood they were getting a hampster.

OH and by the way -- we go see her family in January and will be bring the 55 gal aquarium we have in the garage along with all the "stuff" and cash needed for a large snake!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
(Just kidding of course - I would never think to give someone an animal as a gift unless they asked me for it)

DH's family does gag gifts for Christmas which is a real hoot actually. Last year (before we were married) we found his sister the ugliest painting we have ever seen. This year was her year for revenge and she got us a 3 foot plaster pig bank he was sititng up wearing overalls and a hat very ugly to say the least. DH and I had fun with it though since she didn't lock her car when we were loading up ours it seems to have ended up in her trunk. Hmmmmmm who was the winner there..........

Then there was another one where I wonder what they were thinking but it will make a nice regifting opportunity later on.

Hmmm... since your DDs seem like they won't be overly attached to the hampster, maybe the morning after you get it, just as DDs check the cage: leave the door to the cage open (with the hampster conveniently missing) and a cat perched at the corner of the cage, smacking his lips. A little butter on the muzzle will do the trick... :rolleyes1

Be sure to hide the return receipt to the pet store for the returned hampster. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

My grandma got one of those face things that go on the tree for her birthday. We loved it cause she put it on a really neat tree that looked like it had big wild hair. Unfortunately the tree went TIMBERRRRRRRRRRR in hurricane Wilma :-( We were so sad but were able to save the face, not the tree.

I have a very crabby 21 dd that came home from college. For some reason she hates Christmas. She sort of ruins it for the rest of the family.

The millionaire grandma and grandpa (I have been told on this board that it is their money and they can spend it anyway they choose, it is not our money) gave my dd $50 and a bottle of lotion (Suave) opened and used because my mil was allergic to it. Her little sister got $50 and a white/blue fleece and her brothers gor $50's and $25 gas cards.

For some reason the lotion open bottle just set her off when we got home. Me and my other dd-15 sort of laughed and she did laugh about it, but then she started crying and threw it on the floor and said that was about as personal as giving her a brand of open tampons and saying "I can't use these".

Of course there is more to this story-but I think she needs a few days to time-out. She really got mad though when some of her cousins from my side of the family asked her what she got from her other grandma-they always know she gets the wierdest stuff-and for some reason this year it just really upset her.

I got a magnetic book mark. DS19 got a pen & pencil set(he's a musician, not an academic) and DD12 got a plastic Snowman ring from SIL. She is well-known to give "hmmm..."gifts and we always joke about it. At least I didn't have to endure the Chocolate Turtles this year. I think I ate them at her house(once) and she thought I just loved them, so I've been getting them for 24 YEARS

My DD#2 got me a foot spa. Geez if I want to soak my feet I'll just get in the tub and soak everything. Not even sure my doctor will allow me to us it. :(
DD#1 gift to DH and myself was coming home for the holiday. Now that was a great gift.
One a of friends gave me a fake Tiffany lamp. Interesting but will I really use it?

I loved everything I got. Some was expensive, some was inexpensive, and some was hand made. Love and hugs to all my friends and family, who know just what to get me!

Both of my daughters (one last night, and one today), looked perplexed at the dozen eggs, pack of English muffins, and canadian bacon they opened first. Thanked me, both said guess they would be making nice breakfasts the next day, and just well, looked confused, but good manners won out (LOL)....but, they were visibly happy, and laughing, and saying..whew, it made sense now..but we were sure wondering..when after another round of others opening a second gift, they opened their second gift and it was that toaster over that makes the egg mcmuffins. Lots of laughter and sharing of just what they thought when they saw the eggs, (granddaughter thought, wow, grandma and grandpa must have planned a camping trip) etc LOL!
We also gave both families a weekend trip to a local indoor waterpark, and because they do allow it, we'll all be bringing our egg mcmuffin toasters (we got one for ourselves), with us!

My dsis gave me a mason jar w/cookie mix, recipe and a wooden spoon. Oh, it was for me and DH, addessed to *The ****'s from The ***'x*. How personal.

It's the thought that counts.

At least you remembered to get the fixings for the egg mcmuffins. The kids gave Dh one of those toasters and I forgot to get the stuff at the grocery store. Oh well, we can have them tomorrow.

The daughter we gave it to yesterday has used it twice already. She said it's the best thing since sliced bread..and and she says be sure to read the instructions for the boiled eggs..use the piercer!

I'm so glad we're not the only ones with a kid like this. DS was miserable all day yesterday and even made me cry. He straightened out a good bit today, but he still wasn't happy.

My brother gave DH a bottle opener with a naked woman on it. He bought it when they were in the Dominican Republic over Thanksgiving. He made a big speech about how once he saw it, he knew he wanted to get it for my DH. I don't get it, but it will make for years of conversation since it will live behind our bar.

Well, I got a nylon slotted spoon........but it was from my 4 year old who saw it and apparently thought that was exactly what mommy needed. According to DH, he decided on it immediately and could not be swayed. DD got me a nice pen but it says Red Hat Club and has a red hat on it and I am only 36, so not quite a candidate yet. In their defense, we take them to the Dollar Store and I love the gifts they come up with every year. Very cute and really quite a bit of thought put into them! Last year, DS got me a fish shaped pen so I guess the Red Hat one is an improvement!!

Let's see I got 2 that really made me go hmmmmmmm....

1) A Smoothie maker. I never have even had a smoothie, I guess my cousin thought it was time I tried one.

2) A makeup kit. I don't wear alot of makeup and I guess my DA & DU were trying to give me a hint LOL This is DC mom & dad.

I did however get a nice Mickey Mouse watch from the DC that usually gives me the really hmmmmmm gifts.

My DSis and DBil gave my DH (a sweatshirt and jeans kind of guy) a sleeveless golf vest with their country club insignia emblazoned on it. They gave me a couple of sweaters from the 75% off rack (left the tag on one of the items) that had been on hangers so long they had stretched out by the shoulders. I gave my DSis a camel colored cashmere sweater and my DBil a DVD recorder/player. They are wealthy and we are not. They have always given my DH inappropriate gifts, but he thinks this is the ultimate.

I just don't understand folks, especially relatives.
