So who got a present this year that really puzzled them? Something you have no idea why someone would buy you this?

My BIL and family bought me a "face" that you stick on a tree. Its 4 pieces - 2 eyes, a nose and a mouth - and it looks like it's made from the bark of a tree so your tree has this creepy face thing on it. :confused3 :rotfl: Huh?

They give DW Lauri a laser level and me a tree face. :rotfl:

So what about you guys? Any "HUH?" gifts received this year?

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

My BIL got one of those faces this morning and was so excited. He can't wait to get to the cottage and put it on a tree.

Though it ended up being lots of fun....

My dad and step-mom bought my husband and I a Harry Potter Game. I think it is called qwidditch (sp?)---totally addictive. But the hmmmm part--my husband LOVES Harry Party and I'm lukewarm about it. I have enjoyed what I have watched in regards to the movies--but not even close to enjoying it sooo much that the first thing someone would think of to get me is a game replicating the one in the movie.

But as I said--highly addictive...so far I am undefeated against hubby :).

Oh--and the other hmmm part--she gave the gift without batteries. No big deal--but I always thought it was standard gift giving etiquette that if you give a gift that requires batteries that you include the batteries with the gift. Is this not standard practice?

I thought so, I always give two sets of batteries.

It wasn't given to me but to my DDs - they recieved from DSIL a hamster cage, ball, wheel, bedding, food, treats, chew sticks, and water bottle -- oh yes and 10 bucks to go pick out a hamster ----

Hmmmmmmmm wasn't the only thing it made me say

I'd kill!

Not my gift but my Mom's. DB and DSIL sent us all presents from Hawaii. DS got a borders card, dad got a replica of a thunderbird, I got fabric from Hawaii, and my mom got 8 bead and pipe cleaner cat ornaments for the tree. I know my SIL is crafty and we like cats, but it was a little odd to have so many of the same thing. Also they were all double wrapped in bubble wrap and tape. It took about twenty minutes to open them all.

heh. "OH thank you! I'm sure they will love spending time with the hampsters at your place!"

It wasn't a gift for me, but MIL got DH a laser level too. He hates receiving tools as gifts, and isn't the type to use them anyway. Why did Lauri get one?

MIL always gets me decent gifts, but when it comes to DH, she always hits the duds. :confused3

I always wanted one of those tree faces but I can see they aren't for everyone.

MIL used to buy me underwear that were about 6 sizes too big. I don't know who she was buying for.

My mother regifted a pair of earrings back to me that I had given her about 15 years ago. Not a big surprise....

My mom bought me a fake leather portfolio thingie... I work with preschoolers :teacher: have no need for business things.. is this a hint to change my field ??

It was a weird family Christmas - not our usual dinner, not our usual excitement over gifts-- even the kids were kinda ho hum.. just weird.

I guess she meant well...but...

My niece, 35, sent me and Michael emergency survival kits... ???? They're backpacks with everything you need in case of another Katrina like disaster. It has toilet paper, dehydrated food, water, a survival whistle, a glow stick, batteries, flashlight and a pad of paper...

Like I said, it was a nice thought but it kind of blew my mind for a Christmas gift!! :confused3

$150.00 cash for Christmas......what did he get in return? A Coaster Set that you put Pictures in! huh? :confused3 What the HECK was she thinking? My DD saw it and said: "Oh, I saw that at the Dollar store!" :earseek: I really feel bad for DH, as for me I got a box of carmel candy.....like I cannot go out and BUY myself a box? :confused3 Guess she will be getting less than $150.00 next year. ;)

Robin, I like your Gift, I was thinking of doing that myself!

Actually Lauri is happy with tools. Before she got sick she did quite a bit of carpentry work. She built the pantry, broom closet and cabinets in our kitchen. Her brothers joke that her workshop puts theirs to shame (and it does - the woman owns 4 different types of nail guns! Just call her Amy Wynn!) Hopefully someday she will be well enough to start designing her own furniture and do home improvements like she loves doing

Just remember hampsters are nocturnal creatures. You cannot keep this in DD's room at night. :faint:

Maybe you should have sent the $150 a few weeks before Xmas, so they could have afforded to get you guys better presents. ;)

:rotfl: MIL bought me the Conair Hair Removal System - the modern epilady I guess - it says PAINLESS right on the box but didn't the epilady tout the same thing???

I asked DH for Full House Season 2 on DVD and I got Friends Season 10 (well they both start with "F" and have the word "season" on the box)...

We actually bought one of those ourselves a couple of weeks ago. I'll put it up in the spring. We thought it was neat.

DH sent the money for Her Family for Christmas, not to buy Presents for him or us, I just thought she would put more effort into it. She sent them via Fed Ex I think it cost more to send them than to buy them. Oh, and DH sent the $ 3 days after Thanksgiving! :rolleyes1
