Did you/family member do the Disney College Program?

Both DH and I did. He was a jungle skipper and worked in guest relations while I worked in food service, parking and entertainment.

His 1st program was 93, mine 95.

I did the College Program Fall of 06!! I worked as a bellhop at the All-Star Resorts! Probably the best 4 months ever!!!

I was on the CP Summers of 1998 and 1999.

Summer 1998 I drove the Friendship boats
Sumemr 1999 I worked in Tomorrowland at Alien Encounter (and sometimes helped at Space Mountain)

I was on the college program summer of '05 for 4 months. Worked in merchandise at the Studios (Star Tours and Indiana Jones attractions).

I was on the CP fall of 2001. I was Operations: Tommorowland Indy Speedway
Also helped on Buzz Lightyear, Space Mountain and the Wedway People Rider as a people greeter.

Unfortunately because of family problems I could only stay for 45 days. :(

Did you guys get to pick which park you wanted to work in or which department you wanted to work in (i.e. sales, ride operator, greeter, waiter, resort, etc..) or did you just get placed randomly?

I did 3:

Spring Advantage 2004 I worked Fantasyland Attractions

Spring Advantage 2005 and Fall Advantage 2005 I was a Character Performer.

You do not get to choose your park or location. You put down which roles you are interested in (recommended to pick at least 3) and they will tell you what role you are chosen to perform. On your second day you will be told where you are working.

They do try to put people in places they are interested in and you can make requests, but it is all based on operational need. I mentioned that my favorite character was Eeyore and they trained me on Winnie the Pooh as my first ride. Another girl in my area told the min her interview that Peter Pan was her favorite ride and that is the ride she worked. But you never know for sure.

Even those who are chosen to be performers do not find out their exact roles until they get down there (unless you do end of program auditions).

I was in the College Program waaaaay back when it was called the Magic Kingdom College Program (MKCP).

Spring 1988, Sales Hostess, Main Street, Magic Kingdom

I sewed names on mouse ears :goodvibes

I got the chance to make a lot of kids happy and I had the time of my life :cool1:

My cousin did the College Program many, many years ago. I don't know what he did, though. I think it was food service. He was in and out of the CP before my DH and I became big Disney fans.

If so: when, for how long, and where did you/they work?

I have done 4 CPs, and will be doing a 5th in Aug:
Spring 2005- Fantasyland merchandise
Fall Advantage 2006- Character Attendant
Summer 2007- Epcot WS custodial
Summer 2008- QSFB (Casey's Corner)/Character Attendant
Fall 2009- Attractions (TBA)

Did you guys get to pick which park you wanted to work in or which department you wanted to work in (i.e. sales, ride operator, greeter, waiter, resort, etc..) or did you just get placed randomly?

You can put in a request where you would like to work. But there is no guarantee of it happening. It doesn't hurt to ask though.

I did two programs.

Spring 2002 - Character Greeter (now character attendent)
Spring 2003 - Character Greeter also! I loved it!!!!

I started one this last spring but left early. Anyways I worked at Crystal Palace in Magic kingdom.

Youngest son went through the CP twice. A semester sophmore year 2000 and one junior year 2001. He worked mostly custodial in the MK. He did some overtime at the Sports Complex while the Braves were in spring training. He loved it!

In 2003 he and his new wife moved to Orlando and both worked for Disney. He was in Guest Relations and she was in Character Entertainment. Her favorite to do was Pluto but she did Rafiki, Friar Tuck, and others. It depends on your height what character you do. And while she was the right height for Buzz Lightyear, she was just too busty to fit in that padded costume. She was also a server in the castle. She is now a server at Planet Hollywood.

Our son has moved to Universal and is in management. After getting an extra part time job at Universal, they offered him full time with better pay and benefits.

I worked at DAK in 2001, Spring semester.

BTW every single job interview I have ever had, has started with a glance at my resume and then "Oh your worked for Disney? Were you Mickey?" and then the whole interview ends up being about Disney. :goodvibes

I requested Disney's ANimal Kingdom and I got it! Attractions, it was a blast! By far one of the best decisions I have ever made.

I have to say I've become quite addicted to a Disney College CM that posted her experiences on Passporter.com - she recently posted she was accepted in their Retail Management Internship

http://www.passporterboards.com/for...se/194421-continuing-story-adventures-cm.html
her first post talks about everything with links to all her experiences...

did I mention she was.... not "young"... she has 4 DD!

Did you know she posts here on the DIS too? I've seen her post a lot over on the College Board.
