when we abbreviate "refrigerator", we add a "d"? Why fridge?

Because frige would look wrong. It would make the i long. Although techinically then I guess the i should be long in refigerator.

I agree that it's probably because 'frige' would look too weird. The only problem is that it must confuse a lot of people because on several occasions I've seen 'refrigerator' mistakenly spelled with that 'd' in there.

I think because back in the old days (before our time!) they were called a Frigidaire. So shortened, it's fridge!
