Thank you very much for saying that.. It makes me feel good knowing that I am doing right by my parents.. They mean the world to me and I am lost without my dad.. Money is such a significant thing and insignificant at the same time.. Family ties are more precious than money any day hands down..I told my dad if I had to, I would get another job and take care of it.. He and my mom have never asked me for a penny, let alone anything.. this is the least I could do to the 2 people who mean more to me than anything..

I would much rather have my father back here with me, but it means alot to me that he knew that my mother would be taken care of when and if he passed away..

To me its different when you have someone who is capable of getting out there and making a living or making more money vs someone who is not able to due to age or illness..

To be fair, we don't know what kind of people they are. My grandmother had no problem asking my mom for money because she felt it was owed to her. OP, I'm not saying your IL's are like this, just that it's not hard for everyone. While I totally agree that you should help out family, I would be upset at the fact that they were coming to me for money while having a house built. Sometimes, you have to make some tough choices. I think the time has come for you & your DH to sit down with them and go over finances. It's wonderful to help someone out, but there needs to be an end in sight and they have to take responsibility for themselves. Good luck to you!
