I looked on Ebay hoping to find some adult tickets for sale. I found four (just what we needed) adult 4 day park hopper tickets for sale. They cost me $805.00 for the four tickets plus I had to pay for insured shipping (another $15.00) I thought I had made a good purchase until the tickets arrived. They are marked military. None of the four of us are in the military. Can we still use these tickets? The person who sold them on Ebay didn't mention they were military issue. When I wrote to him to complain and ask for a refund, he said the general public can use the tickets and that it is not illegal for military to buy them and re-sell them to the general public. Is that true? I don't want to do something illegal. I hope just buying them on Ebay wasn't illegal. Can anyone tell me what is permitted and prohibited regarding this matter? :sad2:

I have no idea if you can use those, I hope so! You could have gotten 4 adult 4 day hopper passes with no expiration for $820 at ticketmania.com. Are your hoppers no expiration?

I actually think it is illegal to resell military tickets. At the very least it is unethical. They are sold specifically for use by members of the military and their family. Did you pay more than face value or do you know? When you say military do they say Stars and Stripes like you'd buy at SOG or are they just marked military? To buy those originally you have to have an ID so I'd say the person selling them was the one who is in the wrong.

If you feel this isn't legal or that the auction was "misrepresented" you can file a complaint with ebay. Also, if you paid with credit card, you could "stop" payment on it. There is recourse for buyers if they are not satisfied with a transaction. I am a power seller on ebay and also buy frequently. I can look up the specifics or you could just go into the help menu on ebay and search for the right info and also on paypal if you paid that way. Personally, I believe they should have put in the auction that these were military and intentionally left that out.

I can't say for sure but I know of atleast 2 groups that had that same issue at Disneyland and were not allowed to enter the park with them. I tried to search for the topic on Laughingplace but I can't seem to find it over how the situation was eventually resolved but it wasnt in the favor of the people with the tickets-

When I see the tickets mentioned it ALWAYS says that Military ID is required with the tickets.

It may work but it prob will not work- Best of luck to you.

Yes, they are no expiration. I guess I will call DW and ask them. I will pay for an upgrade if they want me to do that. Live and learn I guess.

I don't know what the individual who sold them to me paid for them. Before I bid on them, I asked him why he was selling them. He replied that they decided they wanted to buy 7 day admissions instead of 4 day admissions. He had good feedback on Ebay so I decided to risk it. I guess I learned my lesson the hard way. Next time it's Ticketmania for me.

Yes, I plan to pursue this with Ebay and Pay Pal. I did pay for them out of my bank account but it was through Pay Pal. I will file a complaint with both Ebay and Pay Pal if DW says I cannot use those tickets or cannot purchase an upgrade if need be. The ad said nothing about these being military tickets. The front of them looks like "regular" tickets sold to the general public but on the back it says military.

The tickets do not say Stars and Stripes. On the back it says 4 Day Military Park Hopper.

DH is active duty. I purchased the same type of ticket for our trip when we went in Dec. We were never asked for our military ID once. While I don't like the situation, it isn't really your fault. If all else fails, make someone in your group get a high and tight haircut!! ;) Good Luck...

When we went in 2002, I remember my husband having to stick his finger in the fingerprint scanner (he was the military sponsor), but I did not. This might have been a different deal though as they were actually giving a free ticket to the soldier and half price tickets to family members. They were special red, white and blue passes though. I do remember that.

If you go here, you can download the current military ticket prices:

You don't have to be military to look. I am just steaming mad here! For many military families, the deep discounts offered to us are in some cases the only way that we can afford a well-deserved Disney vacation. If people like this ebay seller continue to abuse Disney's generousity, they might revoke these priveleges. Some people can be so selfish!!! Grrr... :badpc:

My edit: Come to think of it... when I went in to get information at MWR last month, they were having a sale on leftover 4 day Military Park Hoppers as this ticket is no longer being made (has been replaced by Military MYW tickets). It was still valid though, and the discount was quite deep. I just didn't want to plunk down the money this early since our vacation is not until Xmas.

I thought I read here that a family was turned away at the gate with no military ID?? And no way would it be legal for someone in the military to resell them as Disney always has a policy of non transferrable.

mavanilly,

You can use the tickets with no problems. I work for the military and we can purchase WDW tickets at a discount for family and friends. We have a DVC and when we take friends with us I purchase their tickets. We have never had a problem with them have military on the back of the ticket. I just hope that someone isn't buying them at a military discount and selling them for a profit....

Don'd Worry and Have a GREAT Disney Trip,
Debbie

p.s. If you have any more questions e-mail me.

I don't have any advice to offer but thought I'd let you know what the 4 day PH's used to cost us on base (dh is active duty). The MWR office sells/sold them for $202.00 each adult. So if that's what the ebay seller paid then you didn't get charged way higher than his/her original cost. However, I don't know if our MWR has had "deep discounts" on these passes. I'll be making a call to our office today!

I wouldn't count on getting any assistance from Paypal. Their Buyer Protection is a joke. Someone I know was mailed a box of garbage (yes, literally garbage) instead of the item she bought, but since the seller had a Delivery Confirmation number that said something was delivered to her, Paypal closed the case in favor of the seller. I strongly recommend using a credit card (through Paypal or not) for such expensive purchases.

Another update as I just got off the phone with our MWR travel office. Our base is still only selling the 4 day hoppers, but the price on these has gone up from $202. to $224. No deep discounts. Just an FYI if anyone was interested.

OP--I doubt that you'll have a problem using those. We've asked in the past (at SOG and base MWR) whether we could purchase passes for family and they have said yes. So we've purchased the old park hoppers and stars/stripes passes for family that haven't traveled with us and they never had a problem.

I'm not trying to be snarky or anything, but you cannot 'stop' a payment on a credit card charge. You can dispute the charge with your credit card company, but you can't issue a 'stop payment' like you could for a check.
I worked in the Customer Service / Dispute resolution department of a credit card company for 4 years, and this is a common misconception that people have.

Just called MWR up here as well. They are also sold out of the old Military Park Hoppers that were on sale, but they just sold out. The gentleman said that they had had the tickets on site in the safe, so anyone else reading this and wondering if they might be able to get a deal should try their local MWR office. They might just get lucky! Now I am just kicking myself that I didn't take them up on their offer!

OP, sorry about this thread hijack. Just trying to get some good info out that might help people. I hope everything works out for you on your trip.
