Did package prices really rise so much!?

We went to WDW the end of April 2016. 6 nights, regular dining plan, memory maker, 6 day tickets with hopper. The price was approximately $4,175. I just looked at prices for a similar trip (but used first full week in May, as prices were lower then-prob due to Easter), and the same trip costs $4,558. Nearly $400 more!? Is that accurate, or am I somehow getting confused here!??

A lot of factors can come into play. Just a $20/night increase in the price of a room would add $120 + tax to the cost of a 6-night package. Then, there's the cost of the tickets. If you booked prior to last winter's ticket price increase, you will see it reflected in the cost of tickets for a 2017 package. An adult 6-day hopper went from $390 to $424 on 2/28/16. The dining plan went from $63.70/night for an adult to $67.33/night. Do you have a child that "aged up" from "under 10" to "age 10+"? That jump from child to adult adds a lot to the cost of the DDP and also incurs a minor increase in the cost of the ticket.

Add them all up and it's pretty easy to see where it might cost $400 more.

Was your 2016 package full price? There will likely be discounts coming out for 2017.

That was the full price for my 3016 package. No kids have aged up to the adult category. I did buy tickets for last April before prices raised...

I'm actually planning a smaller scale trip, without hopper or dining plan this year. However, I was a bit shocked by the price since it didn't seem much less than I paid WITH those things last year. So I compared the same trip, just to see... Just seems like a lot more over only a year.

We have trimmed back our dining plans quite a bit for the next trip. Might be our last one for while too.

What you're seeing is about a 9% price hike for the same package. An increase of approximately 10% annually is about par for the course.

Even though that was the full price you paid, are you sure that there wasn't sone sort of discount? You may have booked not even realizing it was booked on a discounted deal that had running at the time you booked.

I don't know where you stayed but I was curious about the room rates increases. I checked Mousesavers and used CBR standard view as an example:

Late April 2016 $215/$252 (weekday/weekend)
Late April/early May 2017 $224/$256

So a very small increase on room rates. Are you sure you have the same room?

It was just a standard room at POR. I booked in September, with the price of approximately $4,175. I wound up paying less in the end for that trip since I got a discount when they can out in January. However, that was the price I booked it at approximately a year ago.
