I haven't heard the specifics...

If the boy has been traumatized and has required medical/psychiatric care... AND, if SeaWorld has not pro-actively made the decision to negotiate with the family about reasonable compensation... Maybe I could understand.

If the family is looking for a multi-million dollar judgement... WELL, ummm, Good Luck With That!

I agree. My first thought was it was ridiculous, but if the child is suffering PTSD from the incident, the therapy bills could be really high.

So they are using their kid as a pawn while trying to make a quick profit off of a deceased trainer. It sounds like they are trying to blackmail SeaWorld into giving them "hush money". And how dare they drag Oprah's good name into this? I think Oprah should sue the family for being traumatized by them using her name and talk show as part of their extortion attempt. I'm sure this must be giving her nightmares.

If you've got time, Outdoor Magazine had a lengthy (although it could have been written a little more objectively, IMO) article about Tilikum and the tragedy.

I wonder if Oprah really would have them on (threats aside)? It's an emotional story from every angle.

All very sad, no matter how you look at it: the whale's life, the trainer's death, an upset little boy, the lawsuit-happy society...

Exactly where were the parents when the tragedy was unfolding? Didn't they shield his eyes? Have him turn around? Talk to the him?

While I understand that there were some 'issues' at Sea World, I think that whenever there is a tragedy and it is investigated, the signs suddenly become obvious. In dealing with wild animals, there is always a possibility of something happening. Wild animals are by nature unpredictable. Could Sea World anticipated that a death could occur and did nothing to prevent it? I see this as a very gray area. There are many times we assume the risk, whether it is written, forewarned, or not.

These people are sick piranhas looking to score off a tragedy and worst of all they are using their ten year old as their pawn. God only knows the damage these piranhas have done to their own just to make this claim.

Would they sue the owners of a racetrack if their precious child witnessed a wreck?

Honestly, anybody there could have nightmares from the event, but the words "immediate cash payment" kind of ring for me that perhaps the family is in the market for a big new house

Them being contacted by the lawyer made me wonder how fast the lawyers contacted the family to begin with.

I'm sure that this was a horrible thing to witness but this whole thing reeks of greed IMO.
