I've never been to Kona Cafe, but we have an ADR for our upcoming trip. I remember seeing Turkey Medallions and Chocolate Fondue on the food pictures thread, but I don't see them on the menu on All Ears...

Any enlightenment, anyone? :confused3

How annoying! Are we happy with the changes in general? Has this been discussed before and I missed it? :rotfl:

Noooooooooooooooooo! They removed my macadamia crusted mahi-mahi too. I am so upset!!!!! That was my ONLY reason for going to Kona. I guess we'll be checking out a new place.

They also removed the desert -- kilaua (the brownie with chocolate on the inside) -- they replaced it with a chocolate chip muffin (It's actually called something fancy, but I tried it and that is what it looks and tastes like. The server asked me my opinion and after I told her, she agreed with me and said she would be passing the info on to the kitchen.)

I changed my Ohana reservation to Kona only because I wanted to try that. Is it really gone? The AllEars website still has it listed. Can anyone else confirm it isn't offered there. I'd rather go back to Ohana.

The Kiluea (spelling?) torte is still on the meun, now instead of being totally chocolate it's more of a chocolate chip "cake" with runny chocolate lava inside. We were never big fans of chocolate lava cake anyway.

Our favorite desserts at Kona Cafe = macadamia nut torte and kona cone (2 adults, no kids)

Other changes to the menu -- we love them.
the new tuna entree is fabulous
the filet is unbelievable
salad = great
pork belly appetizer = very very good if your pork belly isn't "too" fatty (a little fat is good, think bacon!)

Yes this is what I had while there the end of October. There was no chocolate running out of it though, it was like I posted earlier, similar to a chocolate chip muffin. The server said she also had it and didn't like it much. It was no comparison to the former all chocolate brownie type of desert. We ate there a second time that trip and I passed on it and went for the Kona Kone.

Hi, this is my first post here!

The Kiluea Torte was my reason for going to Kona Cafe. I have gotten it every trip for a few years now. It was my favorite dessert in Disney. My dh and I went in early October, and saw that it was changed. We tried the new one. Two of the servers insisted it was so much better than the original one. They were so adamant, I wondered who they were trying to convince; us or themselves. One told us that it was better because it wasn't so intensely chocolate. But I said the intense chocolate was what I liked about it!

We were both so disappointed. The original was all chocolate. When you broke it open, it would gush dark chocolate hot sauce. The new one tastes like you warmed up a rather dry chocolate chip cookie. The "chocolate lava" interior we had to hunt for. No gushing, no sauce. There was a small amount of chocolate goo hidden in the center that we finally found, which lasted about one bite. Plus they put it in coconut sauce now, and I don't like coconut. We would not get it again. I wanted to cry, I was so disappointed that they changed it. I got the recipe for the original a few years ago, so I guess I'll have to try making it at home. So went instead to Shula's at The Dolphin for their chocolate lave cake. Yummy.

My dh also likes the banana creme brulee at Kona, as long as they haven't ruined that one.

I didn't see the banana creme brulee on the allears menu either! :-(

Well, it was still there in early October. At the restaurant, I mean. I saw it on the display counter. But it looked different. Instead of several sliced bananas on top, it had one long thin slice of caramalized banana perched over the top. We didn't eat it, I just remember seeing it. So it could just look different, but taste the same.

Then again, they could have eliminated it since October. I wouldn't think they'd change the way it looks just before getting rid of it, but who knows.

For anyone that has been recently, do you remember what desserts they had on the dinner menu? Just curious. Thanks!

I feel EXACTLY the same way!! We make at least one trip to Kona for dinner just about every trip. I have been CRAVING their mahi mahi. I'm so sad that I won't be having it in December.

Thanks for the menu pic - do we know when that is from?

As for why the changes? I don't know, but the Disney Restaurants tend to do this from time to time - just to mess with us. :lmao:

I remember when 'Ohana changed their menu - quite an uproar. I had never eaten there before the changes, but I sure like the menu now! I'm just soooo bummed that I haven't been able to make an ADR for there for our upcoming trip! :sad1:
