DH and I wanted to add 50 points at BLT. We were hoping to wait and buy those in May, the next time we go to WDW.

We got that flier in the mail yesterday. Did I understand it correctly in that if we don't buy 50 points by January 15, 2009, we will only be able to buy 100 points or more? How can they expect people to come up with extra money right around the holidays?

I feel like they are trying to force people into buying now. :confused3

We will be so disapointed if we can't buy at BLT, but buying 100 points isn't an option for us right now. :sad1:

Thanks!

Yes, you are right. It appears that they are forcing us to buy now, , they need our money to finish the building, LOL.

LOL! No one is forcing you to do anything! Maybe that 25-75 point add-on would make a great family Christmas gift? I'm feeling Oh So GOOD about having purchased my 69 point AKV add-on now!

DVD felt that BLT sales were getting off to a slow start so they lowered the minimum buy in. Now that the buying frenzy is in full swing, increasing the minimum causes the fence sitters to commit and and increased DVD's profitability. Processing a 50 point sale costs the same as processing a 300 point sale.

You got it right! I think someone already posted on another thread that it's been determined that the DVC powers that be were smokin' crack when they voted on this one!! They must be trying to boost 4th quarter sales any way they can. I guess there are still some owners out there who have been untouched by today's economy so they must not think this will detract from sales.

The minimum buy-in for BLT has always been 25 points. Same as other resorts. :confused3

Actually this is Disney's 1st quarter. I wonder if they are trying to use DVD to boost revenue due to poor holiday sales. We are at WDW right now and the CM's are in a funk. Disney has cut hours and is moving them around to fill in the holes.

At the MK yesterday the longest posted wait time was 10 minutes. :scared1:

I too am disappointed by this news. We can't guarantee a trip to Disney every year, and don't need that many points to go every other year. I like Bay Lake Towers for the location and would like to have some points for use there in future. I don't care about the view. I longed for a magic kingdom view at Contemporary for about 20 years, then I booked it in 2006. It was nice, but I was not over the moon with it. What I loved about Contemporary, was being able to walk back home after magic kingdom closed instead of waiting for buses and trains. I am not ready to buy, and I don't want 100 pts, so I guess it won't be happening.:sad2: I'll just have to go with a resale on one of the other resorts. OKW and SSR really appeal to me.

I too am disappointed. While I had planned to buy in when the incentives got better, I just didn't like the tone of the current mailing I got and just decided it's just not a good time to buy and the mailing helped me make that decision.

I just got a brochure in the mail today from DVC, I guess it was for the new tower by the Contemporary, advising me to buy now before the price increase!! I guess you have to love their optimism :rotfl2: :confused3 :rotfl2:

Are They Smoking Crack?

Apparently. :confused3

Though I'm not personally familiar with what this substance does to somebody, I have to believe that it must have been some good stuff based on what I've heard.

Just curious, what evidence is there of a "buying frenzy?" If DVC is at all a reflection of the broader economic circumstances (and I am sure it is--sorry people but DVC is not immune however much we might wish it), there is a buying slowdown, and they are trying to get a bunch of small-point contracts sold asap.

OP: yes.

Maybe frenzy is too strong. :thumbsup2

Sales have picked up. DVD's credit slow down is being address so more buyers are being approved. The price increase is meant to get the fence sitters to commit.

I saw a post here in DIS just yesterday saying they got Founders' Club at BLT just yesterday or the day before. What's it been? Like 2 months now and 1000 contracts of 160+ haven't been sold to existing members yet?

Doesn't sound like it's exactly kickin' ____ and takin' names to me. Certainly not like they presumably expected it to (or us either for that matter I think).

Sales are above the 1000 mark but 200 fell out due to credit issues. The 200 were re-sold. Now they are well above the 1000 mark.

If any of the 1000 fall out due to credit or other issues, they will be replaced. It's not clear if they move the buyers up the list or if they just give Founders status to the next buyer. Moving buyer up the list requires a contract addendum that would be a headache to administer.

Good 411. Didn't know that.
