We're in the process of planning our January 2013 trip. This will be a first visit for the kids. I was able to make a reservation online and gave them my CC number.

Even though our travel reservations aren't finalized yet, we plan to use the DDP. When I was making the reservation I didn't see a place to indicate whether we were using the dining plan (it might not have mattered since we haven't actually paid for it yet). I was under the impression that you only have to pay a deposit for the reservation, but it seems like it was charging the full amount. It's not a big deal, assuming when we get there and use the DDP our account will be credited or the full amount won't be charged until we actually dine there.

Did I do that right? Or should I cancel the reservation and wait until the travel reservations are final and let my Disney travel agent do it?

Agree with PP. I looked for a month to find a CRT ressie. So hold on to it and wait. You travel agent will be able to link it to the DDP without loosing your reservation. Btw, wdw is really good about refunding quickly. My credit card got mine the next day.

It's only supposed to be a credit card hold if you're on DDP. While it's a 2 man job, you can call Disney Dining and they will reprocess it and refund your $.

Don't Cancel yet!! you may not get another!

I did this last year- made my CRT and paid up front. Once I added the DDP I called back and had it moved over to my DDP and had my CC refunded. Be patient it WILL take a little time to ensure that you don't lose your ressie. They'll prob. have to get a supervisor to handle it.

BTW I would do this BEFORE I arrived @ WDW, not @ the time of the reservation. I have read posts where the CC wasn't refunded, and the DDP was charged the credits, so once home there was a small "mess" to clean up...

Thanks! I'll make sure to call them before I get there and make sure they don't try to cancel it and rebook it. I toyed with the idea of just paying for it OOP because we have more ADRs than we have meal credits (since CRT takes 2) but I'm pretty sure we wouldn't pay that much OOP for two meals elsewhere.

Leave it as si if you can! That's a phenomenal experience that you'll love. It books fast so you're better off to keep the ressie even if it means spending the cash now (a necessary evil) They can can apply your DDP meals when you get them and credit back your card.

As the PPs have said, don't cancel. However, have your TA make a new ADR linked to your DDP. Once that ADR is made, you can then cancel your original ADR and get your refund. That is much simpler than having DDP added to your original ADR. We are going in Jan, as well. And with the new ADR policy, there are plenty of ADR options out there.

You're going to have to work hard to find 2 TS meals that equal the cost of CRT. While I'm not saying it's a bargain, it's probably slightly less that 2 other meals combined. If you're going to have 2 more TS meals than credits, leave it alone. I don't think we've paid for CRT with dining plan credits yet. I do prefer to guarantee the meal with our plan, then pay once we're there. But since the deed is already done, I'd leave it if you know you'll use the credits elsewhere.
