I think I remember reading somewhere that if the DVC resorts are full and you can't book a room on pts that you can stay in a non-DVC resort such as POR, etc for only a $95 fee and no nightly room charge. Is this true or did I imagine it? TIA

Sorry, you imagined it. :)

Members can use points at moderates, FW, and some deluxes (YC, GF, Poly) at any time. There is a $95 charge for this, as there is for pretty much any use of points outside the DVC system (there are some exceptions).

Check the point charts on the member site. You'll find that the points per night for the non-DVC resorts are extremely high. For example, a night at POR costs 16 points, and a studio at OKW can be as low as 8 points per night.

Never heard of any such thing. There is no guarantee that you can use your points when you want to use your points.

You can stay at certain non-DVC resorts using your points (and it will be high) PLUS the $95 fee.

Thanks. This is what I was trying to say, guess I didn't get all the words right but this is the info I wanted.

Also you can not book outside the DVC system if you are within the last 4 months of your use year. You can stay at non-DVC resorts on ponts during that time, but it must be booked prior to the start of your banking window.
