Did I make a mistake?

We had reservations for 19-26 Sept at AK, but really wanted an October reservation. Well, I just called and MS was able to find space at OKW for 17-24 Oct (the dates that we wanted), so, before really thinking about it, I cancelled the AK resv and booked OKW.
We've never stayed at OKW, but after looking at some of the posts about bus transportation, I'm wondering if I made a huge mistake. I don't want to spend a ridiculous amount of time on a bus...
Any insight would be appreciated!

You will not regret it. OKW buses are just as reliable as any of the other resorts and OKW actually sits much closer to the parks than AKL does. I would expect shorter bus rides.

The resort is quite nice.

You said that was the week you want so I do not think you made a mistake. From both AK and OKW the only transportation is a bus so I think they will be equal. Most people that aren't fans of the buses (I'm one of them) don't like them regardless of the resort they are at.

You will LOVE the space and relaxed atmosphere at OKW....shorter bus rides to the parks than AKV...if you request a unit near the hospitality house you have at least 2 bus stops within an easy walk. The units are huge and bright and there are lots of recreation options....I do not think you will be disappointed.

Please do not let bus comments sway you. There always comments about buses at all resorts.

OKW is no worse than any other resort as to buses.

Rooms are huge, newly rehabbed, relaxed atmosphere, nice views, fun pools and Olivia's is a hidden gem.

I agree! Personally, I think OKW is Disney's best kept secret! We own at BWV but always stay at OKW. We love it!!!!!!!

Everyone has their own opinions. Don't let comments about the buses influence your decision. If you want to stay at OKW and these are also the dates you want, then just enjoy this beautful resort.

We had slightly annoying bus stuff there (though my aunt and husband had a miserable time getting home one night), but at AKL we had an absolutely rotten time getting to a park one morning.

So for me, AKL is the loser over OKW when it comes to buses.


Just enjoy OKW...lovely place!

The buses are perfectly fine at any resort with dedicated buses. AKL and OKW both fall into this category. Enjoy!

The buses are fine and the added bonus of taking the boats to Downtown Disney. We enjoy the relaxing rides. You will not be disappointed with your change in resorts.

HH is actually a booking category, not a request, so call MS to see if it is available. Good luck!

Old Key West is actually our first choice for most of our trips. We love the room and find it to be far more quiet and private than the other resorts. Our last add-on was OKW.

OKW definitely has a different feel to it than the other resorts I've been to, and the bus service was fine when we were there. I'm sure you'll enjoy your trip

Yea I agree, I would not let transportation plan your trip, Disney transportation is great in the fact that they move alot of people around in a day. Sure sometimes you will get long waits and some standing on the bus. but in the end they get you to where you are going...

OKW looks like a great resort I can not wait to stay there....

IMO you will not regret OKW. It is a beautiful resort and you have the advantage of boats and walking to SSR/DTD. At AKV you only have bus transportation which can be hit or miss.

Go to the Gurgling Suitcase and order one of those Turtle things!

IMHO okw buses are far more reliable than AKV buses and the journies are by an large a far bit shorter than AKV. Never had to wait too long there, compared to AKV which has always had a dire bus service whenever I've stayed there. Perhaps I'm just scunnered by the seems like 2 hour bus journey from AKV to the MK

OKW is great. Much bigger rooms that AKV. Enjoy.
