Did Hollywood Brown Derby used to be a NON-Signature?

I vaguely remember eating there with my family YEARS ago, before the DDP was even close to existing.

Did it used to have a more casual, not as expensive fare? I cannot imagine my dad agreeing to eat there if it was fancy and very expensive when we were kids....

It can be very casual still. It has a great atmosphere. There are reasonable options for lunch. I would imagine it was probably cheaper pre-ddp.

It has always been pretty upscale (for a themepark rest).

No not fancy in terms of dress. The food is pretty sophisticated. If it were located anywhere else other than inside a themepark I think it would be "fancy".

I agree with your statement, but it is also common for a sweaty group of people to come in directly from 100 degrees outside and have a nice relaxing lunch. The cobb salad is reasonably priced and if you combine that with the grapefruit cake it is filling. Children's meals are standard. I really like the Brown Derby, but I find it to be pretty casual.

Oh absolutely I have been one of those sweaty disgusting people.

The current menu is the same for lunch and dinner, so that means there are reasonable options for dinner, too :) (the cobb salad is quite filling for me even though it's an appetizer).

Anyway, even before the DDP existed in its current form, I remember Brown Derby requiring 2 "wishes" like the more expensive signature restaurants. In fact, the only restaurants that I think changed "rankings" are Coral Reef (demoted to a regular restaurant, which completely ruined it IMO) and Le Cellier dinner (upgraded to signature status, which has marginally improved some menu items while also making lunch much harder to book).

The "old" Brown Derby was a much better restaurant in terms of atmosphere. Far less crowded, a piano player playng a Grand Piano in the restaurant. A nice relaxing bar upstairs..

Fantasmic changed it all--unfortunately.
