Not us. We had been going to WDW yearly since 1973 and in 1998 we discovered the DVC in a travel magazine!! We called on a Monday and by Friday we were waiting for the papers; we bought sight un-seen at the Boardwalk. Today we own there and SSR and couldn't be happier.

It's a big commitment so I think it is normal to have second thoughts. It's not just the cost of DVC itself, you have to buy tickets (if you want to visit the parks), food and possibly airfare.

I went back and forth for months before deciding to buy a resale contract. We have not had our first stay yet (it's coming up soon - can't wait!) but so far I'm glad we bought. We chose fewer points for now and paid upfront rather than financing. While I would love more points, I am glad we only have the MFs to worry about every year.

One thing I would be very sure about before buying is the ability to afford DVC and regular Disney trips. There are many who never regret buying, wish they had bought sooner, etc. But there are also many who give their contracts back to DVC because it turns out they couldn't afford it, or they suffered unexpected financial problems.

Even if you can easily afford, though, I still think it is normal for some people to need time to figure out if it is the right decision. I am not one to make quick decisions about spending thousands of dollars, so I can understand the hesitation. Good luck with your decision.

YES! I had a really hard time..I'm super frugal and everytime I thought of that chunk of money I got a little clammy handed.. I dithered for quite awhile before I made the move and then I did it in baby steps..25 point resale at OKW to get in the system to buy a small contract at VGC. Then 125 at VGC, sell OKW and then 2 yes 2! add ons at VGC for a total of 225..I still get clammy if I think of the cash outlay so I choose not to think of it! Instead I think of all the great vacations and times shared with family and friends. Plus..it isn't like it is money down the drain..I'd pay for lodging anyway, and if I choose, I can sell it later. That said, it is NOT for everyone, but if after really thinking about it you decide it's for you, I bet you'll have no regrets.

It took us about two years from our original tour to make the purchase. Of course the price went up alot, but we were just not ready at first. Good luck with your decision, we are happy with our purchase, and in fact have added on twice since our original purchase.

We knew right away in '92 that we wanted to buy, but waited until we could pay for it in full, so we didn't actually buy in until '97. I can not tell you how much we have kicked ourselves since then for not buying right away!!!

It took us 5 years to makethe plunge. We ended up going with a resale contract to save money and only bought 200 pts - enough for us to go every other year with our family. We love WDW, but can really only find the time to take one big vacation a year. We wanted to go to other places in our off years. As the kids get older and DH and my time gets more flexible, we can go every year. I hope to add on at some point so the kids and their families can enjoy it as well, but that will have to wait. Take your time and really look over your vacation patterns and how many points you'll need. You'll be happy once you join, but the initial jump is a big one.

Ultimately, only you and your family know your own financial situation and whether or not DVC makes sense for you. Personally, my family came close to buying several times, but ultimately decided to wait until we were sure it was right for us--it helped that they announced BLT while we were trying to decide. We've had absolutely no "Buyer's Remorse."

We absolutely love our DVC and wouldn't trade it for anything! We have added on once and would love to do it again We love to take family and friends with us, so the more points the better!

Now having said all of that...be sure that this is what you want, that you are sure you can afford to go on a regular basis and that this is the way you want to vacation for many years to come. It is a big commitment and one not to be entered into lightly. Sorry the Mom in me came out there! But I just hate to see someone buy into this and then find it doesn't really work for them! Yes, it took us a while to decide. For one we don't live very close to Florida. We are a 5 hour plane ride away and there are no direct flights so, it can take up to 9 hours to get there. So, it was a huge decision for us. We have to plan for our trip because we can't easily just hop in a car to go. Also, we had to decide if this style of vacation was for us. We own other timeshares and as a family of 4 we prefer to stay in one or 2 bedroom accomandations everywhere. A hotel room does not work for us. So, we had to make sure our points would allow us to do that. Next, was the cost factor of going. I think, this should be a HUGE consideration. Can you afford to buy park tickets? This is a cost that rises every year. Also, the other is boredom factor. Would you get bored going to the same place year after year. We discovered that we wouldn't but some people do. Anyways, we now own 300 points and wish we had more. We tend to go for 10 to 12 days at a time when we do go. My kids can't wait until the next trip.

We bought at the end of our first trip 2 years ago and had never heard of DVC before that. For our family it has worked out to be a great purchase. Our only regret is that we did not know about resale and we now think that we could have many more points if we bought resale.

We took the tour in 2007 and the $16,000 minimum was too much for us. We would not finance and didn't have the cash at the time.

We also thought we might be buying a vacation home in Florida to retire in, but we also decided we couldn't afford to do it just yet. I'm 60 and my DW is a little younger so we have a few years left to work.

Then after much discussion we decided to buy a small (100 point) resale at BWV and we just took the plunge. We are visiting BWV in January for our first DVC stay and we are hoping to stay at Aulani in April, 2012.

YES! It took us 9 months from considering to purchasing. We ran numbers and reports for weeks to help us decide. In the end we decided it was best for our family. We are very happy so far with our decision.

Actually our problem wasn't whether to buy or not but rather, when, how, and what which resort should be our home resort. We agonized whether to purchase through Disney or go resale and how many points. We kept watching the resales and found one that suited us for the resort we wanted. Then a week later we added on before we even had our first "Welcome Home." We purchased a contract that had a years worth of banked points which gave us more bang for the buck. The salesperson called later with a small contract that had not been advertised. The seller needed to get rid of it quickly so sold it at a bargain basement price. Obviously each family's situation is unique so what works for us may not necessarily work for you. Prior to DVC we stayed exclusively at a value resort which was all our budget could tolerate. We have 6 kids so each visit required two rooms. Plus passes, etc. With DVC we noticed that our costs went down a bit but we were staying twice as long in much much nicer accommodations. Plus the little perks (discounted APs) have been icing on the cake. Now that we are on the verge of being empty nesters we are making multiple trips each year with our youngest DD and one of the older ones that has left the nest. In the near future we will have our grandchildren along. We've been members since 2000 and, as has been repeated many times before, we wish we would have bought when it first opened.

We recently purchased a resale and have not had any remorse. After 2-3 vacations I will have made my money. We are looking forward to all of the future vacations.

We don't really consider DVC a club even though Disney advertises it as one. It is really a business transaction where people can pre-purchase a hotel room for up to 50 years. If you intend to vacation at WDW every 1 or 2 years then it can make financial sense

IMO the magic comes from Walt's legacy, his attention to detail and his vision. If owning a DVC interest allows us to experience the magic more often at a cost savings, then it is worth it.

Yes, it took us a few years to dive in. Funny story: I literally walked out to the mailbox to mail the deposit on a contract... about an hour went by... then I had a panic attack when I heard the mailman driving down the street... and ran out to the mailbox to pull the check back out!

A few months later we did buy in and have since recently added on 100 points. Only regret is that we didn't do it sooner. I often think of the thousands of dollars I paid for a cash reservation and it could have been going towards DVC. All I can say is - when you know it's the right time to join - you will. Just wait until your are comfortable with the decision. Good Luck

After being treated to a trip to BWV with my brother, who is a DVC member, and staying in a 2bdrm we joined within 2 months. I guess the decision was easier because he explained a lot of the pro's and con's ahead of time. Since 2005 we have added on once and looking for more. We are a family of 6 and would never be able to afford to stay in a 2 bdrm villa any other way.
