This had to be the best episode ever of this show. Did anyone see the 25th Amendment coming or that John Goodman would be the Speaker of teh House? I hate to see A Sorkin leave the show because I'm afraid that the snappy dialog will leave with him. Every show he has created has had the same fast moving dialog and it is great. Can't wait now for the fall to see what happens next.

I love the West Wing........for all that have not looked it up already here is the 25th Amendment (I am a geek like that!):

Amendment XXV

Section 1. In case of the removal of the President from office or of his death or resignation, the Vice President shall become President.

Section 2. Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.

Section 3. Whenever the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that he is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, and until he transmits to them a written declaration to the contrary, such powers and duties shall be discharged by the Vice President as Acting President.

Section 4. Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.

Thereafter, when the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that no inability exists, he shall resume the powers and duties of his office unless the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive department or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit within four days to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office. Thereupon Congress shall decide the issue, assembling within forty-eight hours for that purpose if not in session. If the Congress, within twenty-one days after receipt of the latter written declaration, or, if Congress is not in session, within twenty-one days after Congress is required to assemble, determines by two-thirds vote of both Houses that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall continue to discharge the same as Acting President; otherwise, the President shall resume the powers and duties of his office

I watched it and enjoyed it. Between West Wing and 24, the 25th amendment is getting a lot of exposure.

Our family loves this show! We all thought Pres. Bartlett was going to make Leo the Vice Pres. I think Leo would be the perfect person for the position. Maybe next fall...

Thanks for posting the 25th amendment. Itwould guess that when Bartlett decides to sign the second letter and act as president again, Goodman (can't even remember his character's name) will try to persuade Congress that Bartlett should not be reinstated.

I missed the first half (caught it when Toby was just about to leave the hospital. I could sort of guess what happened, but would love a rundown, if anyone minds?

I agree that this will probably be a storyline next season (that, along with tarheel's prediction about John Goodman's character, which I also agree with). Especially with the scenes where everyone kept answering the questions with, "Leo will know what to do."

bekkiz --

the show started with leo telling the pres and mrs. bartlet that zoey was kidnapped. they were in their residence with some friends looking at baby pictures and wondering where the time had gone. :(

in the situation room, fitz and nancy disagree about whether it was the qumaris or just a random kidnapping.

at the scene, the head secret service guy tells charlie what happened. charlie remembers that the dumb french guy had told zoey he wanted her to try exctasy that night and runs over to teh french guy to ask him if he gave it to her, but jean paul (that's his name, right?) is really out of it. the secret service guy tells some medics to get a blood test.

after that i think is when they showed toby at the hospital. :)

Did anyone else bawl when Toby was talking to his babies, or was it just me and my sister?

I thought it was a GREAT episode, and I can't wait for next year! And yeah, I think they're totally setting Leo up for the VP. After all, he could carry the show after Barlett has to leave (that whole 8-years-in-office rule.)

katerkat ~ I agree..I loved the scene with Toby and his twins. I liked that they showed that side of Toby. It was nice to see for a change.

I love the whole Toby thing! And they really need a strong dramatic lead as potential president and Hoynes wasn't it. I could see Leo though...he's one of my favorite charaters on television.

If you miss an episode by the way a great place for recaps is Television Without Pity They are irreverent and sarcastic but at least you know what went on in the episode! I love their site!!!!!

Now while I would love to have Leo as President and they planted that idea last week with the picture of the two of them walking across the White House lawn; I don't think Leo would get confirmed in Congress because of his past drinking problem. I think John Goodman is going to be a great addition to the show. He is already showing them who is boss. They also missed a great opportunity to have Matthew Perry on again as legal council instead of making Will the attorney of record. Just a few of my thoughts. This is better than real life.

I must have missed a few episodes. What happened to the Vice President?

The VP resigned two weeks ago when Matthew Perry was on the show. He had had an affair with a woman andwhile trying to impress her he gave out classified information and she leaked it to the press. The staff thought that they could ride out the storm but he didn't want to emparass the president so he turned in his resignation. They havn't had time to pick someone else. Everyone here on the boards seems to think that Leo would be a great pick.
