Hi,
Can anyone tell me about the Butterfly farm? Was it something my ten year old Grandson will enjoy?
thanks,

I'd like to know how this was. I am planning on doing this with my family...we have been to similar events...at the Bronx Zoo. And we really enjoyed it. Can someone give info on how to get there and do we really need to book this through Disney or can we do this on our own?...which we prefer. Any info would be appreciated! Thanx!!!!!

We went on the butterfly tour in June. It was not exactly what I thought it would. I was thinking it would be along the lines of Callaway Gardens. The butterflies are stunning. It is a large screened room type area so it is extremely hot and humid. The guides take groups through and explain all the ins and outs and they tell you a tremendous amount of info. I got some great pictures because I had a long zoom. It was beautiful but I don't think I was prepared for the heat etc. If you have any questions just let me know.

I am so sorry I did not realized there are two butterfly trips. The one I went to is on St. Thomas. Sorry if I confused anyone!

The kids (11&9) and I did the Butterfly Tour on St. Maarten through DCL in March while my husband did the 12-metre regatta. Our tour included a long bus ride around the island with a few quick stops for photos, and a longer stop for shopping on our way back to the Magic. The driver pointed out points of interest along the way and talked about life on the island. The woman who gave the tour at the Butterfly Farm was friendly and interesting. She geared her talk to the children, and was available for questions. Our tour was on a cloudy day and heat was not a factor. We were served fruit punch and rum punch when the tour was over and we had time to browse in the gift shop.

P.S. My husband had a great time on the 12-metre regatta!

My DD(6) and DS(3) did the Butterfly Farm tour with my in-laws in January while DH and I went diving. They LOVED the Butterfly Farm itself, but complained significantly about the bus trip. During the St. Maarten stop, the driver stopped away from down town, told them had about 30 minutes until he was going to leave again from a different point, and sent them on their way. My gang spent the 30 minutes trying to find the restroom that they had been directed to and then hustling to make the bus -- which then waited around for the stragglers! The report that I had was that the bus trip was too long and the stops were too short.

So, if you can figure a way to do the Butterfly Farm without the required bus trip, this may be appropriate. Or if your group likes looking out windows or is able to handle reading while traveling (remembering that the roads are not interstates).

Hope you have a great trip -- we leave for our $99 bonus cruise in less than 4 weeks!
