This is what happened to us: we went to MNSSHP on the 28th and then went to the Boardwalk on the 31st for halloween.
We stayed at the WL the first part of the trip (Oct 28 - Nov 1) then switched over to AKL (Nov 1 - Nov 4).

On the night of Nov 3 (or the morning of Nov 4) I was packing to leave that morning and went to condense the two candy bags so I could pack them and both bags were full of bugs! Yes I said bugs! I had the bags sitting high on top of the TV cabinet and they (the bugs) were all on the top of the cabinet and some were even on the table. I say bugs but they could have been a type of an ant. They moved around like an ant but they didn't look like a typical ant. So freaked out, I grabbed the bags and threw them into the plastic laundry bag and closed it. There were still plenty of them running around on the cabinet and the table.

My question would be to you, did this happen to anyone else?? Was it the candy that was buggy or did the bugs come from the Resort? My feeling it was the resort, but we were on the 3rd floor and no candy was open it was all wrapped. This really was not a magical way to end our vacation!:(

Yuck!! :(

We were there for the party on the 31st and stayed through Nov 3rd (at the GF) and our candy was fine.

That's too bad and you're right, not very magical!

Don't forget you are in florida and we have lots of little bugs. It sounded like sugar ants. They are really tiny and come from nowwhere. If you lived here you learn not to let any food out. what I always did was put the candy in a plastic bag or in the frig. I can't say whether it came from the resort or a bag or the candy itsself. many many options. Actually the ideal situtation to be in, is to have a separate room to open all containers in so that if any little bugs are in it they will not come into your house.

We were at MNSSHP 10/29 and didn't have bugs in our candy bags. I didn't see any ants at our 1st resort but saw 1 on the bathroom counter (nowhere near our candy) upon moving to our 2nd resort a few days later.

We were at the Boardwalk Party on the 31st and staying at the AKL. No bugs. we were on the 4th floor. In fact I just ate a piece of the candy a few minutes ago and it was fine.

RPrincess, if sounds as if you had the same problem we had when we were there in September at the Contemporary. The way you describe the bugs (and where they were found) was exactly what happened to us!

Here's a link to my post....

I, too, freaked out - who expects bugs in their rooms?!? - especially when you're not exactly staying at the Motel 7 (ha, ha)?

Sorry to hear of your experience!

My mom left a pack of crackers open on the counter in our 1 bedroom at BWV last December. In the morning there were little ants all over the counter. I took the food off the counter and wiped it down, we were fine after that. I swear they came up through the sink, many were in the sink bowl.

That's just nasty! :( I've lived in FL for 7 1/2 yrs., and have never once had bugs getting into any food on my counter. I would have freaked out too! Sorry, that happened to you. :(

how about ladybugs.

I cringe when I hear Epcot releases them. I know they are suppose to do a world of good, but I hate these things. I bet I suck up 20 a day in my vacuum. Today I sent 5 down my garbage disposal, big mistake, I had to put bleach in, they stink.

After doing some reading I do believe they were a type of an ant. Maybe the ghost ant because these were brown on the front and clear/white on the back. So it made it really hard to tell what it really was. The other wierd thing about it was that I had a bag of cereal (disney with marshmellows) that was over on top of the fridge and they didn't get that. They must of stopped onece they found the candy! AKL did help us out by getting another room for us to sleep in the rest of the night. Both my husband and son were already sleeping when I found the ants. But one of the funny things that happened was that the CM (there was only 1 because it was 1 in the morning) went to call the manager on the phone and ended up calling our room by mistake and woke up my husband. The CM didn't know what to do so he kept talking to my husband and of course telling him he was sorry for waking him up. My husband laughed the next day and said that this guy should have just said sorry I woke you and hung up.
AKL wanted to replace the candy and I said no it's not worth it. My son is 4 and really doesn't need all that candy anyway.

Thanks for everyone's feedback. I will try to post a trip report soon. We did have a wonderful time and thanks to all the wonderful people on this site who helped with their suggestions.
