Did anyone have a 4 year old go thru this phase?

DD4 just started a new phase (hopefully thats all it is) a few days ago, where EVERYTHING is wrong with her. I don't know if its just, like I said, a phase, hopefully not a long one, or trying to get attention or what, but she constantly says something is wrong with her...and really, nothings wrong. For example, walking in the living room "ow, I bumped the couch, my arm hurts, oh, my toe hit the table, my foot hurts, oh, my tummy hurts, my head hurts, when i pull my hair that hurts" on and on and on. We tell her its fine, have blankie kiss it better, etc, and it was kindof cute at first, but now...just kindof annoying. Any advice? Is this common, or just something shes doing?

I think that's part of the "self awareness"; when they REALLY become aware of themselves as separate from other things and people. They just seem to notice every little thing, and equate it with the "strongest" feeling they have, which is "hurt" and "pain".

One of my twins did that at 3 years old... but almost 4. It passed.

My DD did it at 6 and everytime she said something hurt, we would tell her to make a list and we would review this at the end of the day. Surprise, surprise she was always fine by the time we got to the list.

My 4-yo ds does this occasionally. Especially if one of us has been sick or something. His tummy hurts......if I can tell for sure he's just saying it, I tell him that since he's sick he needs to go lie down in his bed. Funny how fast he feels better! Sometimes with him I think it's for attention, not that he doesn't get plenty already.

I agree....it will pass. I try not to make a big deal out of anything that is apparently phony.

My DD likes to say her tummy hurts and she is not feeling good. So I tell her if she is sick she needs to go lay down in bed. She usually feels better pretty quickly. ;)

In my teen years, I babysat 3&4 year old brothers. The younger one always complained of aches and pains. I was never sure exactly what the mother was doing to handle the situation, but it always seemed odd to me that this child demanded tylenol or pepto bismol even for something like maybe eating too much. :confused3 I always told him he would be fine and sent him on his way.

I teach kindergarten and have students in my class that are 3-5. I get this all the time. The worst part is that as soon as one child starts then everyone has something wrong (20 kids!).
