Did anyone get an IPAD?

Hi, I could not resist and bought myself the basic 16gb one with a wifi gadget, 5gb for 15a month. Love it it's fantastic dd thinks it is hers lol

This will probably sound like a silly question to you experts but what does a iPAD do, how is it different to a laptop, what is it main purpose/function?

popcorn:: Wanting to get dh one for Father's Day/Birthday combo this month. Leaning toward the wifi only, but I am not to savvy at this sort of thing. The 3G is a monthly payment, yes? :upsidedow I told you I am not too savvy at this sort of thing. LOL

Depends on the network you are with.

3 are a monthly payment.

Orange are either a monthly payment or a 1 off payment that gives you internet for either 1 day or 1 week.

O2 are either a monthly payment or a 1 off payment that gives you internet for 1 day.

Vodafone are a monthly payment and possibly also offer a 1 off charge for 1 day but im not sure about that one.

However - you can cancel the money charges at any time (there is no contract length) so you could pay for 1 month and then cancel it again.

O2 are easiest as they allow you to pay for 3G on the iPad, where as i believe all the others require you to phone them to stop or start things.

Personally i use o2. They're not the cheapest (though there isn't a lot of difference) but i really li ke being able to stop and start my 3G without phoning as i don't use it very often so only usually get it 1 day at a time when i actually want it - i'd hate to have to phone them up every day!

I am going to get an ipad for my soon to be 18 year old nephew and have a couple of questions.

  • For an 18 year old is it best to get the ipad plus wifi and 3G as he will be able to use it on the move
  • For the internet access should I go for 1gb a month or 3 gb as I'm not sure about the sizes - do teenagers download lots of aps and is this what it refers to
  • What things do I need to purchase to make it work at first - any tips on basic extras that I should get.

Thats it for now and thanks for your help.

My husband John bought me one yesterday as an anniversary/birthday present.
It is the wi-fi 64gb one.

:flower3:

We bought the 64gb with the 3G and the whole family is loving it. I told my husband we may need to go buy another one.

In the US AT&T are changing the structure of the 3G plan. AT&T are no longer offering the unlimited data for $30 a month.

If you think he'll want to use it away from wifi then I would go for the 3G model - 3g tariffs in this country are on a 1 month basis so you don't have to worry about signing up for a 12 month contract and then find he doesn't use it like that.

For internet access, I would get 1gb and see how he goes. If he uses that up then you can always upgrade Jim the next month. That 1gb is only for 3G anyway so it depends how much he uses it away from wifi.

Theres nothing else you need to purchase - you just download iTunes and away you go. Peresonally I've added a case to hep protect it a little (and make it easier to type on by propping it up) and a stand (to use it as a photo frame) but neither of those are required.

You'll also need to consider the storage - if he has a lot of pictures and music to put on it then 16gb may not be enough. As a guide, i have about 1900 songs, 4400 pictures and a coupke of pages worth of apps on mine and am using 16gb

We have went for the MIFI and we have unlocked it, it's so tiny, this means we can bring it to the parks and have our iphone's too. We will probably use a T mobile sim in it
