As I was watching TV tonight the Disney commercial showing a mom at the computer with a price of $1696(que the dumbo elephants to fly to kids bedrooms) then the dad comes over and says yeah we can do that or something to that matter. WELLLLLLLLLL about 1 - 2 months ago that same commercial said $1700 because my son and I both said AHHH they went up $100 from last years commercial. My point in this long paragraph is WHY would they only drop the price 4 bucks and think that will make more people see it as a bargain????

I guess it's the same as everything else. Why do people put a price of $1.99 instead of $2. It looks like less. It doesn't have to be much less as long as it looks like less.

Because when people see 1696 they think 1600 when they see 1700 they think well 1700. It is a way to make the vacation appear less than it is

I didn't notice that specifically but I did notice how much it's gone up. I remember the original commercials that said $1200ish!

I noticed that too! However, when I go to "price" a trip it never comes to 1696.:confused3

Isn't that the truth. I remember "pricing" trips back when our DD was still "free" (2 or under)... so we might get those deals they advertise for a "family of 4"... it never quite worked as well as they said!! Since that price is always a "starting" price for the very basic, no frills version - but who really wants that?!? The ploy does work though, since it gets people looking and then seriously considering - and then looking at how much extra it will take to turn that basic no-frills version into a trip they would really want.... oh well. That's why they have so many marketeers on staff - to make us all want to open our wallets even further. :rotfl:

Well our package is $1400 something. 7 nights at AsMo, 6 day basic tix, 2 adults, 1 junior, 1 child. So it can be done! If DD10 was a few months younger, it would be cheaper yet.

Was just thinking, since we got free dining offer, that is just $200/night and includes hotel, food, transportation, and admission to 4 fabulous parks! Not bad!

Okay, so here's my question, ignorant as it may be. What exactly is a junior? You're either a kid or an adult according to Disney (under 10 over 10). So where does this junior category come in? Does it just mean that they don't charge you for an extra person in the room if one of them is either a child or a "junior"? My DD is 12 and we had to pay everything adult price for her (park tickets, meal plan -- although we were there during free dining, etc.) so I'm assuming it's only for the extra person in the room?

Yes, it means that they know you're paying the adult price for everything else but aren't they nice? they won't charge you for an extra adult in the room.

It would be nice if Disney had a REAL Jr price for the 10-13yo crowd. A price somewhere between the child and adult price. Especially for dining. That age group normally eats somewhere between the kid menu and the adult menu. Some days dd10 can put away a rack of ribs and all the sides and other days she's full on a bowl of soup, and she's tiny -57in and 60lbs.

Thank you for clearing that up for me!

I know what you mean. My 11yr dd hardly eats and is also tiny. She is 51in and 55lbs.

That commerical cracks me up. Let's hope little Susie's birthday is in an "off" season or you're looking at way more than $1700!

We were laughing about it. It used to be $1500, then $1600, now its $1696. Dh has to point it out and be funny. "Look its onnnlllyyy $1696. We can afford that, lets go!" He is a dork.

DD loves the new commercial, i know evertime its on because I hear DD say"Mom, its wishes again!"

It is one of my favorite com tho. I didn't even notice the price. Good for you guys.

MINE EITHER!!!!! Always more.....sometimes less, if I dont use hoppers, dining plan, and all the goodys....LOL.....

I said the same thing when I saw the 1700 ad on TV. WOW it went up....I guess Disney is having "economic" problems too....although I honestly dont see how with all the people that go there!!! LOL

I had an even funnier pricing issue last night. I looked up a package online it was $5018. I called to see if AAA rate was available. She said not on packages only on room only. I said okie dokie could you give me the price of both. I was given a price of $5676 for the same package I found online. The rep said no they should be the same. I told her no I was looking at it as we spoke. My laptop somehow disconnected me from the web so I had to retype my info for the package deal. Then it gave me $5434 as a total. I told the lady I would get back in touch. I now am wondering do they give you a better price the FIRST time then it goes up if you log back on?
