Just read on Twitter that Dick Cook was fired as head of Disney Studios. Disney is denying that he was fired and Dick Cook did write a resignation letter, but other rumors are that he was fired. Seems pretty sudden to be a resignation.

I really liked Dick Cook, I'm very surprised he's leaving. Didn't look like he was going anywhere when he was at D23. I smell Iger.

Los Angeles Times, September 18, 2009: Walt Disney studio chief Dick Cook resigns

After 38 years with Disney, it's hard to believe that it was Dick Cook's idea to "resign" suddenly.

Let's see if other business sector heads, such as Jay Rasulo, suddenly find the urge to "resign" from Disney.

He had to go. Since he's been in charge, very little worthwhile has come out of the studios. Sorry he's been there so long, but he wasn't getting the job done. Keeping him on because he's been with disney for 38 years would be like GM keeping the CEO because he has "automotive experience." Yeah, they've both had experience in taking their companies, GM and Studios, down the drain.

Besides, Pixar hasn't had the advantage of someone with 38 years experience, and they seem to be able to make some movies that are OK. Time for new (better) blood.

Well said

IIRC, Dick Cook was one of the execs who seemed most resentful when John Lasseter was named Chief Creative Officer for both Pixar and the Disney animation studios, and reported directly to Bob Iger, bypassing him in the approval process.

You've got to be kidding. Very little worthwhile. What do you call the Pirates trilogy then:confused3

A franchise that started fabulously and went downhill like Bootstrap Bill Turner plunging to the crushing blackness of Davy Jones' Locker... (money making power aside).
