diazepam or valium for dental visits?

Kitty, I think he would have offered it to me but I had already gotten it from my GP. I told him I had to go to the "d-word" and was scared to death.

Then, my first visit to this new "d-word" was just to talk. He asked me just how scared I was. I said, "Well, I had to take 1/2MG of xanax just to come here and TALK to you."
I think he knew how serious I was at that moment.

He did end up getting me in the chair to do a set of impressions. Now, impressions are about the worst thing I can think of. Such torture that I think it could be used by our government if we were going to torture our enemies.
Thank God I had the xanax in me that day. I am sure I would have died during the impressions otherwise.

OMG - I'm gagging just reading the word "impressions"!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!

BTW - Just so ya'll know...I've already contemplated calling and canceling. I was thinking earlier today - "hmmm....well, I could call them and say that one of my clients went into labor and I can't make it in". BUT - I'm *trying* not to be a wimp...I've GOT to get this done!

Me too!!

I had to have 11 sets of those during the 6 months that it took this "d-word" to do the work. It took him way too long but that is a whole other story.

11 sets. I think he should have been able to do only 2. And it never got easier. Once I even pulled the top one out myself before time was up! That'll teach the assistant to cram my tiny mouth full of impression goop and leave me there alone, hyperventilating. :rotfl2: Only the joke was on me because we had to start ALL over again.

I have nightmares about the "d-word". I have panic attacks about them. And the stange thing is, this "d-word" never hurt me physically. My issues are all so different than pain or needles.

Mostly, the issues are with the impressions. Or did you guess that one? :rotfl:

Transparant, I remember going to this one who wife came into the shop I worked at. She was in his office the day i went in the see him and she came back there with me. I thought she was gonna hold my hand! (I think I wanted her to hold my hand! )
Anyway, I hope you can go and do fine. Poeple live through it all the time. I am just not sure I will the next visit...

Thanks everyone! I'll let you know how it goes. I'm seriously a HUGE chicken when it come's to the dentist.

I took my daughter on MOnday to this dentist and she needed a small cavity filled - the Dentist came out in the waiting room to discribe to me what he was going to do to her....I had to tell him to be quiet - I swear the room was starting to spin just listening about the procedure - let alone having it done on myself.

This is a huge pet peeve of mine when Dentists and Dr's want to describe to you step by step what they are doing. It's not just one of them either it seems to be all of them. They must learn it in medical school.
I have to cut them off too. I don't want to know, I don't need to know, it doesn't comfort me in fact it freaks me out even more. There is a reason I didn't go to medical school or dental school, because I have NO DESIRE to know about these things. Just pretty please do what you have to do and do it fast.
Oh and I am not afraid of pain or the needles at the dentist it is the sound of the drills and the scraping sound on my teeth. Thats what does it for me. My dentists have some rooms that are open to other rooms with other patients, I always have to make sure I have a fully enclosed room so I don't hear the drill next to me while I wait.

This thread could not have come at a better time! I hate the dentist but I went on Monday to get X-rays and now I have some major work that needs to be done.

I need a wisdom tooth pulled, a crown put on one and a bridge done. Between the thoughts of the pain and fear I'll be in, and the expense, because we have crappy insurance, I'd almost rather just let all my teeth fall out and be done with it!

For me it's not just the thought of being there but also the pain after. I'm just a big baby any way you look at it.
