Diapers With Older Children

Hey all!

Here's a topic that probably has very little written on it! I was paging through my Disney Passporter book for the 100th time and was reading the section where it talks about traveling with babies and where diaper and feeding stations are located throughout the World. Now, talking about babies and the little little kids is WAY too easy a topic so this one is different. :teacher:

I was originally going to post this under the Disabilities board but the more and more I though about it the more I realized that this applies to a broader spectrum of families. Now, so you understand my situation, I have a multiply handicapped sister (Autistic & Wheel Chair Bound) so diapers are a way of life on vacation for her and us. When we're at home she is usually pretty good with getting to and using the bathroom but we do have our moments but on vacation when we are constantly on the go and in long lines we, well my parents anyway, decided long ago that diapers would be the best solution. :hippie:

Over two decades of being a Disney freak I have heard and seen numerous incidents where parents of older children have returned or asked their children to go back to diapers for the sake of long lines, making the most of time and whatever other reasons there are. I was just PMing another member that I've seen and heard of kids as old as 10 wearing some sort of protection in the parks ... not disabled ... just normal, healthy kids.

I don't have a problem with an older kid in diapers but I think my situation with my sister skews my objectivity and may give me a biased opinion so I wanted other voices and opinions on this subject! :grouphug: Anyone with an older child in diapers ... or even a disabled one like my sister care to chime in? Besides, it's a diversion from the same Disney questions that are normally asked. :surfweb:

So glad that your sister gets to enjoy Disney...she's blessed to have such a loving supportive family! :littleangel:

I don't have a child in diapers...mine are all grown, but the thought of parents putting their 10 year old in diapers for convenience appalls me! :scared1: If there is a disability, of course that changes things, but you stated "normal, healthy kids". In fact, once they're out of diapers, it would be so confusing to the youngest ones newly trained to revert back.:confused3 I get the problem with lines etc., truly I do, but come on...really? Sorry, but I ardently disagree with any parent who would do such a thing!:sad2:

Oh hell ... I didn't go back far enough! Before I post a new thread I always try to search to see if it has all ready been posted and I did with this post but I didn't go back far enough.:confused3

A topic very similar to this was posted back in 2006 but I didn't page back that far until after I made this post. Maybe a mod should delete or lock this post because I have a feeling I'm going to get torn up over this. I didn't mean anything by it ... I swear!:guilty:

I just know with the long lines and people wanting to see everything while they are there because it's so expensive ... that coupled with the fact that there are now up to size 7 diapers plus Goodnites and stuff like that. I personally wasn't potty trained until almost 5 and even after that I had night problems for a long time. I mean I KNOW it's not "normal" but I didn't see anything wrong with it ... but I wish I hadn't posted it because I read how ... strongly, let's say ... people felt on this topic.:headache:

SORRY!:sad1:
