I have a couple questions for everyone. Can you buy diapers and formula at the theme parks/hotels in DIS? If so are they expensive? Is there a local food store that would sell it cheaper (and is easy to access)? Any info would be great!

Hi!!! If you are flying in, go with one of the town car services and you get a 30 minute grocery stop. Buy a styrofoam cooler and fill it up with waters, juice, milk, fruit, healthy snacks (for you) and formula!! I would buy the "ready to feed" kind and those little cat food can covers fit them perfectly for the "leftovers". Just keep it nice and cold in your cooler. Bring one of those little individual bottle warmers for the room and don't forget the bottle brush and dish washing liquid!!! If you don't already use ready to feed, try it for a few weeks before , so that the baby is used to it. My baby did change from powder to concentrate to ready to feed and did fine on all of them , but you never know.

Buy the expensive "utlra" diapers for the trip.

Also, bring all the meds (for you and baby)you can carry with you and thermometer. A lightweight stroller is a must.
If you are going out for half a day, just pack a small diaper bag for that time and then repack it to go out later.

Take a mid-day break, just to get the baby out of the "overstimulation" of the parks.

I regretted leaving my humidifier home this last trip. The room was soooo dry!!!! It also cuts down on noise when you and baby are trying to sleep.

Have fun!!!!!

We ran out of diapers in the Magic Kingdom last month and were able to buy them at the Baby Care Center. It was a little more than $9 for 10 diapers! Formula was also available, but I don't remember what brands. I'm sure the mark-up was similar.

When DD was an infant, part of my vacation planning was a trip to the pediatrician. They always have individual cans and/or packets of formula and were more than willing to give them to me for our trip. Maybe you could check with your ped and see if they have some on hand. It saves a ton of money over what the stores charge for the individual packets or small cans of RTF. You might also be able to get trial size bottles of Tylenol and such to take with you.

If you use powdered mix type formula and your baby is used to your water at home, I would not mix it with FL water - it tastes terrible from the tap and has an awful sulfur odor to it.

Especially for an infant, I'd recommended bringing some bottled water from home (if you're driving) that way you can mix it in one of those rubbermaid containers with the measurements and snap/pour covers, they are so convenient.

Ready to feed is definitely more convenient though - powder is less expensive.

I'm sure they are more expensive on property than in local grocery chains or pharmacy stores.

VERY good point about the water! Our water is terrible. I won't even give it to my cat, much less subject a baby to it. I always used bottled or filtered water when mixing the powdered formula.

Having travelled with babies many times my advice is to make sure you pack enough diapers. They are expensive and in limited sizes in convenience stores and parks. I did not pack jar food though, but picked up on grocery store stop on way to resort.

Trick for formula that I used from time I adopted my daughter in China: I premeasured powder formula into playtex nurser bags and sealed off with a rubber band. I kept a day's worth in zip lock bag and could mix up a bottle anywhere. You can use bottled water if you choose or another altnernative is to buy a Brita travel bottle with filter.

Once you get the organization down, travelling with babies isn't too stressful. We were though giddy with excitement last year when, for the first time, we didn't have to haul strollers or diaper bags. We felt so free!

We jsut returned with our 6 month old. A few things that worked well...we shipped diapers, wipes, formula, bottlebags etc down to the hotel and they were there waiting for us. Ialso sent a crib sheet and some toys. We rented a swing and excosaucer from A Babys Best Friend and it was GREAT!!!! MAke sure you use bottled water (we shipped that down too). I also sent some palmolive dishwipes (these were great for washing out nipples and bottlesi n the hotlel sink..wash and throw away). One great thing I bought before leaving was this neat plastic formula keeper. It had a place to put 4 measurements of powdered formula. I filled it up in the morning put it in the baby bag along with disposable bags and a few bottles of H20 and off we went. I had enought formula for 16 hours!! I threw away the bags after baby had eaten and washed the nipple and we were great until the next feeding. I also had a coupon for disposable changing pads which were GREAT I loved the idea of throwing them away after they had been on the changing table. Dont forget the sunscreen, baby tylenol and a baby hat for the sun. One of the best things we found was to buy a "pacifier leash" to which we linked a rattle type toy. This helped keep the toy off the ground. Traveling with the baby was not bad at all. Have a great time!!

If you do consider using the ready to feed, make you try it out before you go. My daughter would NOT eat the ready to feed at all. Also, make sure you know what temperature your baby likes the formula, because again, mine would not take it room temperature. It had to be borderline HOT.
I do agree with the suggestion of the powder formula in the disposible bottles. We always would pre measure the formula in the number of bottles needed for the amount of time we would be out (like at the mall, etc.) and all we would need to do is pour in the water (that we would get from a restaurant or something), burp it, and shake. (no need for an extra container to mix it in, just make sure you burp the bottle to get all of the air out before closing it up with the lid and shaking.)
I am so glad I don't have to worry about the bottles anymore, just the diapers. :D Also, if you pack the diapers in your suitcase, then you will have more room for souveners when you are ready to return home. :teeth: That is what I am planning on doing.
