I can't seem to make up my mind and would love to hear your thoughts. Is it crazy to think of going to DL during the diamond jubilee (mid-July) or do you think we would be better off going at the end of July? I am so torn!

We're working on planning our trip, too. I have a feeling it will be packed to capacity no matter which week you choose if it's anything like the 50th anniversary was, so I'd say go for what works best for you.

Whatever they end up doing for the 60th will still be happening in July and August. I'd pick the dates that work best for you and deal with the crowds as they are.

Would LOVE to be there for the 60th. Made it for the 50th and would like to take my grand-kids in late May,or whenever TUSD gets out. :cool1:

Thanks all. It's such a dilemma. Sometimes having flexibility in your schedule can make you think too hard :)

I remember reading RUMORS (absolutely not fact at this point) of a 60-hour party for Disneyland's 60th. I don't even know how that would work and even IF Disney were considering it, it may not happen at all.

I figure rumors are just guesses of what might or might not happen. But if we're already speculating about unknown crowd levels, we might as well speculate about unknown events that might or might not affect those unknown crowd levels. :rotfl: For instance, if all things are equal but you're completely horrified at the idea of attending during a 60-hour party, you might consider moving your dates away from the official date of the 60th, just in case the party ends up happening.

If it were my trip, I'm not sure how I'd feel about a 2.5-day party which may or may not occur. In fact, if I were booking at this moment, all I know for sure is that I would personally not plan to start my trip on the Saturday, Sunday or Monday after the 17th...it would seem weird to start a trip the day/s immediately following the 60th, and if a party did occur, any party crowds and/or closures for party cleanup would be in full swing on those days, even though you didn't get to enjoy the "official" anniversary.

(Since you had some interest in going on the anniversary, though, I am going to guess that you wouldn't start your trip the day after the 17th anyway. :) )

I think if there is a 60 hour or 24 hour party or a kick off event it will not be in July. The 24 hour event has been Memorial Day the last 2 years, and the 50th kickoff was on 5-5-05. I think the likely dates for the start will be the Friday of Memorial Day, maybe Thursday if they do 60 hours so it ends Saturday, or June 6th. With July 17th being a Friday this year there may be an uptick that weekend, but usually it isn't any extra crowded on the days around the 17th. I suppose there is a chance the park could close on the 16th, but I kind of doubt there's going to be anything so huge that they'll need a whole day to set it up.

I am leaning towards the end of July. As SMD said, the celebrations will probably still be in full swing.

So far they have not announced anything that makes me what to go for the 60th.

I agree. And on top of it, the deluxe AP is blocked out on the 17th anyway. When we have APs we like to arrive on a Saturday afternoon, then have a full 6 days in the parks starting Sunday, then leave the next Saturday.
I'm thinking we'll go the last week of July this summer and then can return the second or third week of July the summer after that before it expires.

Who even knows what will be happening with APs in July. There will most likely be another price increase before then. If blockout day tickets come back, expect many people to buy one that day. If the So Cal pass comes back and blockout tickets come back, watch out!

I do not expect either of these things to happen. I actually would be surprised if they do not get rid of the select pass as well.

I expect both to happen, and then go away again, and then come back. It will be a repeating cycle, the timing of which will always cause opposing levels of euphoria and despair for everyone with no middle ground. No one will be safe from the joy/wrath of Disney!
