Hi hope someone can help. My dad has travelled with us the last three years to disney however he started hemo dialysis in November.

We are canadian so it is a little different in terms of coverage and can be in the thousands. I have been told there are 5 dialysis centres in florida that take canadian coverage and will be the canadian government directly does anyone know anything about this? Our ontario health plan only covers $230 per treatment and 8 treatments will be needed. We usually go to vero too so I am hoping there is a centre close by.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Sorry, I don't have any specific experience to offer...but I believe here in the U.S. there is usually a social-worker or other staff member from the home dialysis clinic who helps to make the arrangements for those on vacation. Maybe your father has someone at his clinic who can help?

Enjoy your vacation!

Thanks for the info. The dialysis centre told me to look online or to call around for pricing

In the US, if I'm looking for a provider that accepts my insurance, my insurance company can provide me with a list; do you have some ability to contact the health system there for guidance on which providers in FL accept your health coverage?

If not, you can call the dialysis centers directly.

http://www.dialysiscenters.org/fl/orlando/ is a list of dialysis centers in Orlando I found on Google.

Many dialysis centers have limited capacity for vacationers, so calling sooner rather than later would probably be a good idea. :)

DaVita does a lot of the dialysis in my area. Rather than calling each individual center, you might be able to call this one number and get information:
1-800-424-6589

Fresenius is another of the large dialysis chains in the US. their number is:
1-866-821-5747

This site lets you get a listing down to even the street level if you need the center to be really close to where you are staying:
Dialysis Finder

I think that this place might work directly with the Canadian government in regard to billing, and thus might not require payment upfront. I can't promise though. :confused3 They aren't as close to Orlando and Vero Beach as other places would be, though.
Universal Kidney Centers

Also, I found this fact sheet for Canadians travelling with Kidney Disease. You probably know all of the info on it, but just in case:

If none of those places work out, just post and I'll do some more digging. :surfweb: Good luck! I'll probably be on dialysis one day, so I figure any good 'karma' I can build up helping you guys find information can't hurt, LOL!

I have the info for the place somewhere on my computer. I can look for it if you like. However, it is no where near Disney but down in the southern end of Florida. We estimated at least a 3 hour drive.

Davita Celebration only charges $275 per session. While it sucks to pay out of pocket, it is rather painless getting reimbursed by OHIP.

Thanks that's not bad at all :). I heard it could be up to 500 a treaent and that adds up fast. Hopefully the one near vero beach is similar thanks again
