Diagonal or vertical levels

Has anyone ever heard of a diagonal or vertical level used when building things? I am not sure of the technical name for it. My mom said something of my dad wanting one for his birthday but I have never heard of it. Any help would be appreciated!

Is she referring to a particular style of level? I guess it would depend on what he is planning to build. Here is some of the levels that Sears has for sale:

You can find them everywhere. Cheapy plastic. Nicer aluminum ones. They make laser levels too.
Ask at a hardware store, home improvement (Lowe's / Home Depot) or department store.

How about a gift card to Sears, Lowes, Home Depot or wherever with a note saying something like "for you to pick out the perfect level for your job". Then he gets what he wants and you don't have to look silly for giving him the wrong thing.

Perhaps you are thinking of a laser level, the only level I know that can handle diagonals.

Laser levels are often advertised on tv. You could find one at Sears, Home Depot, Menards, or Lowe's to name a few.
