Do you use Glucose Tablets[4 grams fast acting Carbohydrates,15 calories]??

My blood sugar was down to 40 at WDW and 4 of these tablets brought me right back. I was concous so I could chew. Now I carry Glucose Tablets everywhere I go!!

At home I use Cottage Cheese[yogart does not work the same way],cuz the protien seems to be kinder over all in bring up my bloodsugar.

Wal-Greens carries a hard pastic tube of Glucose Tablets. I bought one tube and then refill it from the Jar of 50 tablets I got at the pharmacy.

What do you use??

Tink: I use essentially the same tablets, but from Osco (Jewel) Drug. I have a tube in my car, one in my briefcase, 1 at my desk at work. Long time ago I learned the hard way that my blood sugar can crash easily. That's why I keep these tablets anywhere.

I usually don't start to feel a low until I'm around 50 - 55. But it's funny... sometimes I think I am low, do a test and find out I'm not. Arrgh!

I've never thought of using cottage cheese. Maybe I'll give that a try at home. Usually my lows happen at work or on the commuter train or in the car -- the most inconvienent times!!

I hate the tablets so I use a tube of cake icing gel. My lowest was 35 when I was at a Tupperware meeting in St Augustine and I had forgotten my gel. TG my manager was making Cafe Con Leche. She laced mine with plenty of sugar and made me drink it. Still had mw wiped out for a few hours.

Hi, My whole family thinks Glucose Tabs are a Godsend!
I have Hypoglycemia unawareness along with my IDDM. So I don't really have symptoms of low blood sugar. Hec, one time I was at my docs having a perfectly normal conversation. 5 minutes later while making my next appt I began having trouble talking to the receptionist.. I asked the nurse to borrow their glucometer( mine was downstairs) my bs was 20. The doc came in and said.. "NO WAY" checked it with another glucometer.. 21........ She could not believe I was so coherrant.... It does not always happen that way. Sometimes I get symptoms. When I finally bottom out, I am gone.... .
So I constantly monitor myself. especially before I drive a car !
Diabetics,,, we shall overcome one day!

I'm glad to see that others have discovered how well Glucose Tablets work. My Dd was the one who grabbed the tube out of my backpack and said Mom! Chew this!! I was also glad I had talked about Diabetes with her!

One thing I learned is to carry a card in my kit,to let ours know how to treat low bloodsugar. Because I sure could have told anyone wwhat to do I was so out of it!

Oh yes, I love glucose tablets! I also have a tube everywhere.

I carry the glucose tabs too, but find them so disgusting that I generally cannot finish the whole tablet. Maybe I should try another brand!?? Anyway, I've been carrying hard candies in my purse for emergencies, and find they work just as well, providing my bl. sugar hasn't dropped TOO low. But most importantly, when in the parks, make sure you don't miss a meal (so easy to do when you are having fun and don't want to take a break to eat!) and drink plenty of fluids!

Ok guys. Whatever I am doing with my diabetes must be right. Just got back from the doctor and my Hb1Ac is 6.1
B/P was 110/70 Doctor is very happy with me.

Knock on wood, I've never needed them. Now that I'm on the Insulin Pump it's very easy to control my blood sugar. No more taking 3 shots a day or crashing because I took too much Long acting insulin 8 hours ago. When I was taking shots I always managed to have something to snack on near by. I keep a couple of pieces of candy just incase though.

Just saw this thread now --

YES -- a godsend -- my daughter (who has Type 1) & I depend on them greatly. We use individually foil-wrapped ones. They are essential for us because she can take them to camp, school, etc. without fear that others will steal them (like they would candy) or she will be too tempted to eat them (like candy) or they will disallow them because of the "no-food-in-the-tent" rules.

We also keep small tubes of icing at school (office & class), on her with her glucometer, at camp, at home in case she is too low.

Real peace of mind from these. And have needed to use MANY, many times when we both know any candy would not have still been there when needed.

I even had those foil-wrapped ones (BD) go through the wash intact. I still threw them away as I wasn't completely confident they were OK, but I was impressed! Hopefully the bears & racoons, etc. won't smell them when we're in our tent at Disney!
