DH's scary journey from 102.7* to 105.6* ~ UPDATE post #33

Oh Sandie, what a scary experience for you! You are always there for everyone here, always lending a helping hand and support. I'm so sorry this happened to you and your family. But I'm so happy of the outcome!! Thank God. You will have a very happy Thanksgiving this year!:thumbsup2

I can't even imagine how scary that was for you. I'm so glad that he's doing better and how wonderful that he has such an amazing family to comfort and support him.

A terrifying ordeal for your beloved husband and your family. And it all happened so quickly. I am glad your medical system saved his life. Praise the Lord!

I'm so sorry you all had such an ordeal. Thank Goodness he is better now. It is awful to watch someone you love so dearly be so sick and even the best doctors seem to be unable to tell you why.

I hope he quickly regains his strength. Both of you rest up and enjoy each other.

Thank God! I'm so happy that your dear husband is recovering. It's scary to think about what we'd do w/out our soul mates.

Sandie, was so sorry to read this about your dh. I am sure you all must have been so worried about your precious dh. I am glad to hear he is out of the hosp. now and that you got to celebrate another birthday. He is so blessed to have such a wonderful wife and family. You are so right. Each day is a blessing and God is good!! I am glad he answered your prayers.

I was so afraid to open this thread not knowing how the outcome would be and I am so THANKFUL your DH is doing better! The power of prayer is amazing.

4Nana - you are one of the kindest, sweetest souls that I know on the DIS. The good thoughts that you pass on to many of us shows us the kind of person you are. If there is anything I can do please let me know.

I think we can all use the advice you've given to appreciate what we have every day. It is always good to be reminded of that.

I am so happy your DH is doing well. :thumbsup2

I couldn't agree more with this statement.

Sandie, I'm so glad that the love of your life is doing so much better. It's so hard to see when someone that usually holds us up needs held up. I hope everyone continues on the road of progress.

I am so glad to see the outcome of your post. That would have been so scary, with things happening so fast and not knowing what happened even now. I hope he continues to fully recover.

wow, that IS scary! I am so glad he is feeling better. You guys are smart thinkers to take him to the doctor when you did!!

Latest update for those interested ~ Christmas came early dear friends and once again we are truly counting our blessings!!!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

My dear DH has continued to have off and on problems since his so called virus when we almost lost him in due to 105.6 fever and unknown source of infection. He was fine for several weeks, then suddenly started with off and on bouts upper stomach pain, jaundice, fever, coke colored urine w/clay colored stools (sorry if TMI), all the liver enzymes and other numbers totally off the chart. DD's and myself did much research and the more we read the more concerned we became as it's only natural for your mind to wander. :worried:

DH continued to be under the care of a local specialist and also his VA doctor who ran more tests and told us they were totally puzzled as if this was reoccuring problem or a new one or even worse, liver failure . As weeks passed we were feeling frustrated and together w/drs decided we needed a liver/bile duct specialist and decided on Johns Hopkins hospital. Altho we had to wait couple wks. for appt with a liver specialist, the first visit dr suggested an immediate ERCP test. This is the very test our family nurse, myself and DD's had asked to be done when DH first became ill. However drs felt totally unnecessary :( , as they were determined with all the tests being negative it was some type of rare infection, as did improve with IV antibotics.

Anyway, back to this week :) ~ DH had ERCP procedure done at Hopkins and you'll never guess what his problem has been all along!?!?!?

GALLSTONES!!!!!! :faint:

Unfortunately the Hida scan, cat scan, sono, and all the other tests Gerogetown hospital did previously and his most recent MRI w/contrast never showed any gallstones :confused3! So sadly my soul mate has been a walking time bomb!! :scared:

After procedure the dr talked to myself and DD's ~ he had the biggest grin on his face :teeth: and this huge sense of relief came over us :goodvibes! He said he spent 45 minutes removing lodged gallstones and sludge blocking the bile duct! After we picked our chins up off the floor ~ we thanked him and asked if we could hug him !! Then we broke down and cried ! Praise God we finally have an answer, DH is on the road to recovery and hopefully our nightmare is over . DH has a stent to keep duct open, is on an antibotic, and in 2-3 mos will have stent and gall baldder removed.

OMG friends ~ we feel like we have been through he!! and back !! Thankfully we were persistent and never gave up! My heart goes out to all those, specially seniors, who may not have patience, time, spirit or insurance to be proactive nor have attentive family advocates :guilty:. I don't have to tell you, we are feeling extremely blessed for the wonderful liver specialist who finally diagnosed DH's problem, Johns Hopkins medical team, our loving supportive family who have gone above and beyond the call of duty :lovestruc, all our friends RL and on this board, and our faithful prayer circle. We are truly praising God for his grace and healing touch . DH is bouncing back quickly and says he feels like he has a new lease on life :goodvibes! He is anxious to make up for lost time and wants to plan a spring vacation.

Thank you for taking time to read. I hope this helps someone out there who may have unanswered medical problems, to be proactive and always hold out faith and hope. :littleangel:

I really do feel like 'Yes Virginia, there is a :santa:'!!!!!!!!!

I am so glad to read that!

Best wishes to you and your family. Here's a hope and a prayer your DH has a quick and complete recovery. :)

Wow - I'm so glad they finally found the real problem! You should be on that "Mystery Diagnosis" program!!

Have a Merry Christmas!! :goodvibes

I hadn't read this post when you originally posted it, but how scary that was! And then for it to recur! I'm very glad they found out the true cause and that it is fixable! Hopefully, it makes for a wonderful holiday season for your family.

I am so sorry for you terrible roller coaster but very glad things have turned and your DH is on his way to recovery.

What bothers me most is that this is the FOURTH case I've heard of in the last 6 months of exactly what you describe and it seems it needs to get terribly critical before the stones that are lodged in the bile duct are discovered and removed. Why is that?? If I've heard of four cases surely the doctors see more? It's very frustrating.

Wow, I am glad they found the answer finally. It's so scary ... A Fever and Virus are very scary. Dh had a random virus back in May and it seemed to have run it's course ... until it landed him in the ICU with what was orginally thought to be a heart attack at 33. We later learned that the virus traveled into his heart and caused Myocarditis. Scary stuff.

I'm so glad to hear of this, who knew it could be so difficult to diagnose gallstones? Good for you and your DH for being assertive in getting him diagnosed and treated. I'm so very happy for your family, but the ineptness of his doctors is disgusting.
