I know that the rumors are all out there that Radiator Springs will be replacing Lights, Motor, Action and the Backlot Tour. Anyone hear when construction will start and any projected opening year?

Avitar is finally starting construction after a couple of years of planning and development so I hope Radiator Springs is not going to take that long to begin.

Thanks all!

take this with a grain of salt! but I'm here at the world now and I have heard some rumors from cast members and (queue music) duh duh duhhhh...bus drivers...that a lot of announcements are going to be made at the D23 event.

cast members have been saying that:

Carsland is coming minus the tire ride...and it's going to be bigger than CA.

Star Wars land is coming with a second ride and the cantina

avatar land is coming. they have already moved the character meet and greets at camp Minnie Mickey.

figment is leaving Epcot. the rumor is kids don't know who figment is so they don't relate to him. if this is true...so sad.

AGAIN....these are rumors. nothing is set in stone until your butt is actually sitting on the ride!

Radiator springs is blue sky there is no strong source that has said its happening and disney hasn't said anything so don't get your hopes up. And actually there are more rumors out right now for Star Wars attractions than there is for cars attractions. Disney will do what they want to and they will announce what they are doing when they feel it is time. I might look for some announcements next week when the D23 expo is going on but that might be a long shot because they have taken out the parks and resorts section of the expo. I have heard there is supposed to be a lot of talk on imagineering though and some sneak peaks on upcoming things. That's where I hope we may get announcement but definitely don't expect any type of Carsland to be announced and if they do it would be done for a while I would say maybe 2018 but thats a stretch.

Thanks for all the info. Never under estimate the knowledge of a bus driver!! :)

I had read about move Camp Mickey Minnie and Festival of Lion King and heard that there were alot of cast members with hard hats going into that area.

Maybe if they make Cars land bigger than CA, they can add an airport to tie into Planes. I am disappointed that they are not considering the tire ride. That looked great!

I will also miss Figment. I still have my son's Figment hat from his first trip to WDW and a picture with him and the Dreamfinder (?) - many moons ago!

Disney has flat out said that there will be no major announcements of new attractions at D23. They have said we will get "teasers" of things that WDI is working on, but no announcements. There isn't even a parks and resort presentation this year.

And Disney would never say that they weren't making an announcement and then make one. Keep in mind that on Sunday there are a ton of Imagineering presentations celebrating their 60th anniversary. Sounds like a good time to announce the future of Imagineering.

It looks like I'm still one of the only members on here who is not that excited about the Cars Land rumor. I totally get that Disney see how it is a huge succes over at California Adventure (saw it and I admit it's amazing) and how HS needs an expansion but... Wouldn't it be better for WDI to come up with a brand new project for the studios! My opinion!

I like the idea of cars land but would open to other ideas like monstopolis

They can't make big announcements at D23 because the corporate timeline doesn't work. Any spending over $1 billion has to be specifically approved by the Disney Board of Directors, and those corporate votes are reflected in public filings. They can't make a major announcement of something that doesn't yet have corporate approval. So the best that D23 can offer is what they've said they'll offer - ride concepts for possible Avatar and Star Wars attractions.

Disney just ended a corporate earnings quarter in June. I wouldn't expect there to be any kind of announcement until at least the next quarterly report, which would be some time in September or so.

So anything less than $1 billion isn't a big announcement? I may be off-base but I would think they would be able to build Star Wars land or Cars Land for less than that.

Looking into it a bit more, I overshot. Additional research puts the board action target at anything over $100 million.

Given that Star Tours alone, back in 1987, cost $32 million; and Radiator Springs Racers cost $200 million more recently, even a clone of an existing E-ticket attraction is going to bump its head on requiring corporate approval.

well according to micechat iger and staggs hosted the board about a month ago to discuss expansions

I was just going to say cant they have board meeting even if the quarter isn't up that seems a bit weird to me that they can't. Also they have made big announcements at D23 before like fantasyland and others that had to do with DCA. I myself don't expect any huge announcements of these rumors anyways. I do expect some sneak peaks at upcoming rides that may hint at some type of new land but I just don't see them making a huge announcement. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Imagineering takes seven years from start to finish. While anything for Radiator Springs or Star Wars at WDW is still early, Avatar is a few years in. But the board would have already approved or declined RS or SW a year ago.

I want HS expansion, but not Cars Land either. I am going next month to DCA to see it, but I don't know if I want to see it at WDW. Let's make something unique there, like an overall Pixar Place with a Cars attraction not a whole land, and of course, Star Wars Land

Totally agree with you. Looks to me like Pixar Place should become an entire land including Toy Story Midway Mania and maybe Radiator Springs Racer. This land could go all the way to Pizza Planet so it can include the Monsters Inc Meet & Greet location...

The problem with that is, will it draw all that many more people in? That is one new ride over a large area that also includes Muppets, SoA, Phineas & Ferb MG, etc. CarsLand has proven itself as a draw. If you're going to do something, do it right.

I know i've said this before...but i'm gonna shout at the wind again anyway...

the cars ride from california doesn't work in florida...at least in its current form.

The lines have been gigantic and the capacity has to be much higher in florida...not only that...but the florida weather is much harder on ride systems than anaheim.

add all this to the fact that disney is pumping a blackhole's worth of money into its "guest control system"..also known as next gen, my magic +, fast pass +, bear radio frequency tracking tags, etc....
...and there is no way this works. disney does not want people waiting 4 hours for a ride in studios...not when there is sooo many giftshops to be in across the property...including a 300 million dollar cluster of one that is being worked on right now...
its bad for profits.

go ahead...tell me i'm wrong, the bus driver or "someone on the inside that KNOWS" told you, or talk about magic...:joker:

You are totally right about that! Cars Land is indeed a huge success but lines for RSR are just crazy and the rides is closing frequently so I can't imagine how bad it would be at the Studios...
