DHS - Fantasmic/Star Wars Dilemma

Ok, here is the deal. I would like to do both Fantasmic! and Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular on my trip in September, but my particular date has Fantasmic! at 8pm and the Star Wars fireworks at 8:30pm. Would I be able to do both and get a good seat(as a solo visitor) for the fireworks, or would the timing simply be too tight and force me to choose?

Many (most) nights at DHS have schedules intentionally designed so that guests specifically cannot see both on the same night.

The only way to have a chance at seeing them both is for you to sit at the top of the F! theater near an exit, and leave before it's over. F! is approx. 25 min long. You've got to get out and back over to Hollywood Boulevard to see SWS. Most say, to see it well, you need to be pretty far up (farther into the park) the boulevard.

I kinda figured. Seems like Disney is trying to do that to force you to spend more money. This trip will be to evaluate whether or not I would enjoy the parks enough to purchase an annual pass, so if I have to choose, it will be the fireworks, though technically I don't count episode VII as real Star Wars, since it felt too forced(and too aimed at teenagers), no pun intended.

I personally would pick Star Wars fireworks over Fantasmic. We were fitting in the fireworks as an afterthought back on our January trip between multiple rides on TSMM and then the first Little Mermaid show after the fireworks. So, we just walked up the stairs under the Hollywood Studios arch and walked about 20 feet closer to the middle (so we could run back down them for the show). The show was better and more elaborate than I expected and our vantage point actually turned out pretty good - we could still see the projections on the theater and we had plenty of room. And the added bonus was that unexpectedly all of the storm troopers enter from that direction and there was a lot of interaction and good photo ops.

And we're impatiently waiting for VIII - my daughter was on term abroad in Dubrovnik when they were filming there more than a year ago.

Not really.

The viewing area for the Star Wars fireworks simply isn't big enough for everyone to see them, so they force people to choose in order to help divert the crowds.

I'm still in the process of becoming less cynical about Disney, so you will have to forgive me. First time I ever set foot on their property was the beginning of May of this year. I can see how the viewing area being too small would be an issue.
