I'm not too thrilled with the choice in DHS. I was thinking of taking a boat ride to one of the resorts (kids would love this!!) for dinner. Which resort for dinner??? It would be me, DH, DS 10 and DD4.

TIA! :goodvibes

You take a boat from DHS to the Beach Club. Beaches and Cream might be nice for the kids. :thumbsup2

If you're into character meals, you could go to Cape May at Yacht & Beach Club. Beaches & Cream is a lot of fun, but since they don't take ADRs, it might really cut into your evening park hours.

Oh, and I know that Sci Fi doesn't always get the best reviews, but it is a FANTASTIC atmosphere experience that I think your kiddos would love!

There are no character meals in that area for dinner.
I would suggest ESPN at Boardwalk, or maybe Captains Grill at the Yacht Club. And the S/D have some interesting choices. I really enjoy Picabu in the Dolphin. It's cafeteria style but the food is very good and the atmosphere is terrific.
50's Prime Time at DHS is one of our family 'must do's' for each trip.

The Captain's Grille is very good. So isn't the Flying Fish (although expensive). ESPN Club and Beaches and Cream do not do ADRs and I've seen lengthy waits at both. If the budget runs to it, the Yachtsman Steakhouse has one of the best steaks you will find at Disney.

We haven't tried Kouzzina but Spoodles used to be one of our favorite places to eat dinner on a day at the Studios. Kouzzina's menu looks interesting.

Inside the Studios the 50's is good and the Brown Derby is excellent.

My whole family:lovestruc's both 50's Primetime and Sci-Fi!!!! These 2 ALWAYS make my kids' request list! Good food and fun at both!!:thumbsup2

I know you said you weren't thrilled with the DHS restaurants but we've had really good experiences with both 50's Prime Time and Hollywood Brown Derby. Then you wouldn't have to worry about trucking out of DHS to a dinner reservation. We usually do a full day there and love sitting down at the end of our day for a delicious meal inside the park. My kids are 10, 8 and 6 and they loved eating there. Just my 2 cents worth!:goodvibes

If you want to stay at DHS, we liked both Mama Melrose & Sci Fi. Sci Fi is actually very fun, and if you stick to burgers/sandwiches the food is good. Cape May is a nice buffett at the Beach Club, but it's not a character meal at dinner. We also liked Captain's Grill at the Yacht Club.

For counter service at DHS, we like Pizza Planet...it's not gourmet pizza, but it's alright. And you get a salad as the side. The double cheeseburger/fries over at Rosie's is O.K. -- basic food, but served fresh & hot.

For lunch, we really like the gourmet deli sandwiches at Starring Rolls --there's only two choices, and they're pre-made so you can't get any special orders. But the sandwiches are huge & delicious. Not open for dinner, though, and they can run out of sandwiches as early as 1:30.

I agree that HS is hurting for some good family dining. I vote for Sci Fi at HS. The food is okay but what a fun atmosphere. My DS always love to go here. The B movies that are playing at funny and eating in the cars are a hoot! :thumbsup2

I think we are just going to try out 50's. I hope DS doesn't get too shy with the antics!

Oh, the servers are really good at assessing their customers. One time we were there and felt kind of blah because we all had colds. The server was totally toned down. Another time, we went and our server kept chastising my DH for putting his elbows on the table and it was hilarious! He also told my DD no dessert till you clean your plate. She did and then showed it off so she could get her ice cream sundae. They can tell who they can mess with and who they can't. I'm sure your DS will be fine! Oh, and this place had the best hot fudge sundae I've had in a looooong time!:thumbsup2

any CS suggestions for HS? We have a day there with no TS credits left.

There is not a single cs that I would recommend at DHS. They are either VERY LIMITED in their offerings or just flat out AWFUL. The worst of the worst is ABC Commissary. In fact, IMHO this is the worst restaurant in all of WDW. All the magical fairy dust in WDW couldn't even make this place worth stepping into. The Cuban sandwich(no longer on the menu?) was the worst thing I have ever attempted to eat. Hopefully you heed the warnings of many on this site and avoid the Commissary.

If you have to eat in DHS then perhaps Starring Rolls Cafe or Backlot Express. Just go in with low expectations, neither one of them are all that great either. :confused3

I agree, the two times we have been there I have noticed they appear to do a great job accessing the mood of the guest(or cousin, as they say). And yes, the Sundae's and Milk Shakes are Soooo Gooood.

We like Brown Derby, 50's Prime Time in the park or you could go over to Boardwalk and eat at Kouzzina (formerly Spoodles and now by Cat Cora).

It is pretty good. :)
