DHS bus drop off 20 min walk!?

Thank you for asking her to do that...first hand knowledge/experience is really helpful.

Has anyone mapped out the distance to/from other bus stops/parks. I know ppl. have said it doesn't "look" much farther than say the entrance of Epcot to the bus stops, which we do all the time, but I'm just trying to figure out what the actual difference is in distance. Thanks
Rough estimates

Ok I did some Google maps distance estimates. Obviously not exact measurements but gives an idea of sorts.

So we still don't have concrete info on where Minnie Vans drop off? Did I miss it?

No. The map with the red, blue, and green did not indicate where Minnie Vans are dropping off.

I haven't heard anyone's first hand reports on the Minnie Vans since this change was made. The only guess I can give is they drop off in the closest bus stop to the entrance. They won't drop off in the old bus stop area as that area is now closed for construction.

I was told by disney that minnie vans are dropping off at the front of the parking lot. I don’t know the area well enough. Does this mean they are significantly closer than the busses?

It depends on what they mean by front of the parking lot. Technically the new bus loop is at the front of the parking lot.

Drop off area for regular vehicles, lyft, uber, is now the front of the old CM parking lot, so yes, it would be closer than the bus loop at the moment

Yay for this. Staying at the YC and trying to make HS rope drop- I don't think the boats are the best option.

Sometimes things have to get worse before they can get better. The set up of the DHS parking area and bus loop was terrible before and with the opening of SW:GE coming, modifications need to be made. In addition they are adding the skyliner which is going to also need its own space. Lesson here is plan accordingly for what is a temporary inconvenience for some. Once the construction ends and the new loop (red area loop on the map that was posted) opens it will be a little closer, will be covered, and won't be any farther away then the buses are at other parks. In the meantime, if the walk is an issue, use another form of transportation.

I was just at HS on Tuesday (the first official day of the switch) I was traveling with my wife and 2 young sons (6&4) as well as 4 60+ aged members of our party. My wife and kids took an earlier bus (around 7:30) to the park and the walk to get into the park was longer but ok that early in the morning. When the other 4 joined us around 9 they were complaining about the length of the walk and the lack of shade. When we all left the park around 12:30-1 it was BRUTAL!!!! The only 2 cast members i saw from the exit until the Poly/GF bus stop were both standing in the shade well far away from even the first bus stop in the area. The Poly/GF bus stop is the 2nd or 3rd from the end of the far side of the loop. There is no shade except for 1 umbrella at each stop (that can only cover 4-5 people at max) being held down by 2 sandbags. We only waited about 10-15 minutes for the bus but in the unforgiving sun it seemed like an eternity. I can tell you that everybody that got on the packed bus was complaining about the walk and lack of shade.

IMHO, this switch is very poor planning on Disney's part!

So my sister is there this week and I read her this thread last night as I knew she was going to DHS today. I asked her to "map her run" this morning from her bus stop to the entrance.
Thanks for doing that. Sounds like I won't have to walk it today.

We were there this past Friday. We haven't taken the buses in probably 10 years, but decided to this trip. I guess I don't remember at all what the previous bus area was like ... I didn't know it was changing, so didn't really pay much attention! I'm pretty sure there's still a few bus stops right at the entrance, because we were dropped off right there by the entrance and didn't have far to walk at all. We stayed for EMH, so didn't end up leaving the park until after 12:30 am. Like I said, I didn't really pay close attention - but I don't remember the walk being extremely long. We were tired! And I don't remember thinking it was extra long, or much longer than other walks.
I think the stops were moved after your visit.

Sounds like the lack of shade is causing it to seem farther than it is, that makes psychological and physical sense. Even when we walk a long way at other parks, there is shade toward the end, and even in different spots along the way (usually).

We plan on leaving HS after our 1pm lunch at Sci Fi LOL!

Might be calling a second Minnie Van!!

The issue I have with the WDWInfo post is that the author is presenting certain verifiable elements within the post as facts, even though they have not actually been verified. "Full disclosure" would simply indicate that the author is repeating the guest's words verbatim without any independent confirmation.

The greater issue is that today blog posts like this one are virtually indistinguishable from newspaper articles, each of which are created to different standards, and it can be difficult to learn the standard used to create certain items.

I was at Hollywood Studios this past Sunday and we walked from the back end of the TV lot into the gate and it was fine. Took maybe 10 minutes, tops and was a little over half a mile. But we are born and raised Floridians so if anything the heat and humidity are invigorating :sunny:

We were planning on walking from BWI...I thought we were okay until looking at the map posted on the previous page. Does that mean an additional 10+ minutes will be added to our walk? Were planning on arriving for the beginning of EMH (8 am) and are now considering taking the boat if it means saving steps at the beginning of a hot September day...
