DH travelling w/kids-advice needed

DH is taking our 2 oldest kids to Brazil this summer. I will be staying home with our youngest.

2 of DH's co-workers said that they will give him a big hassle at the airport because of "all the parents that take their kids out of the country and don't return". They said it would be wise to go to a lawyer and get some kind of paper that states I give him permission to leave the country with the kids.

Is this how it works nowadays? Should we go get this letter? It's sad a parent can't even take their child for a vacation without raising suspicion.

Documentation to facilitate travel abroad with children


The following documents may be required to support the entry of a child to another country :

• Birth certificates showing the names of both parents.
• Any legal documents pertaining to custody.
• A parental consent letter:
  1. If the child is travelling with one parent, the consent letter authorizing travel must be signed and dated by the other parent.
  2. If the child is travelling alone or without either parent, the consent letter authorizing travel must be signed and dated by both parents.
• A death certificate, if one of the parents is deceased.
• Status Document from Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

I know it seems sad in general. But seeing what my cousin went through when his wife skipped the country with their daughter I can understand why it's there.

You have to have a letter from the other parent that is not going to say they have given permission to do so, it probably should be witness. My parents are divorced and my Mom always did this we she'd take us to FLA. My Dad usually put his phone number if they wanted to call and clarify. You could get a sworn affedavit from a lawyer as well.
