DH might consider cruise, now ??

Now that we are regular visitors and AVID lovers of WDW, DH recently asked a couple innocent questions about the cruise, so I might actually be able to begin "reeling him in" LOL! That being said, I will bet that our first excursion will be a three day cruise - I know, too short, but what can I say. And we'd probably be looking at the cheapest room available, inside stateroom. My reasoning on this is that we probably won't spend any time in our room anyway. We are usually All Star visitors, except when we get deals renting points, or rooms on priceline. So, am I wrong to talk to him like the cost with be under $500? or should I really be looking at a different cat. room (and the different price)

I'm also interested in what you spend in addition to the cruise cost? We travel as me, DH and DD(8) and sometimes BIL, too.
And need to allow for the adult libation budget.

A lot depends on when you sail. We went on the 3 day over July 4th last year and for a catagory 10 we were in the 1500.00 range, for just 2 adults. So Id estimate a little less for a cat 12 and even less for a better time. I believe you can get a quote by going to the DCL website.
As for extras, again for 2 adults on a 3 day, our staterom charge came to 754.31. This included 2 adults parasailing, all tips, 1 picture, souveniers, Palo, and drinks.

Good morning Rspmont. I just checked for you on the DCL site. For 2 adults & 1 child, sailing in Sept. 2004. The cost is 1299.00. That cost is the same for both a cat 11 or 12, so I would go with the 11 just to get the split bath.

Does this mean you have to pay extra for Palo? What about the other restaurants, besides main dining, do you pay for them aaswell? I'm sure you would tip them on an as used basis though, correct?

if you go on a 3-day, the amount of damage to your wallet will be reduced vs the 7-day....that includes tips as well.

A good way to save on drinks is to bring some of your own. If you like beer, on the way to the port you can pick up a 12 pack of beer and put it in a rolling small suitcase....carry onboard and put in the refrig or ice bucket as needed

Also, DCL offers a daily drink special for like $3.00 - $3.50...

There is an extra charge for Palo, I believe $5.00/person. That goes as the waiters tip since they dont get any of the regular waiters tips. However we(and most people) tipped more than the 5.00 each.

There is no charge for food at the other 3 restaurants, room service, or fast food counters.

Thanks for all the responses. When I said $500, I meant per person. What I was trying to get a feel for was if a 3 day was going to be so short as to potentially make it a "negative' experience And if you are on a three day, am I right that you potentaily will spend very little time in your stateroom.


Camcolt - what did you think of the three day. would you do another 3 day or opt for longer or never cruise again? And how much of the $754 was the parasailing? Was cat were you in?


Nice to know you can bring alcohol on board. I thought I had read somehwere that they limit you on that.

There are no split baths until you get to Cat. 10. The Cat. 11 rooms are slightly better locations than the Cat. 12 rooms, but inside they're both the same (and I love Cat. 11!)

The cat. 11 room will be fine. We have 4 of us in one and had no problems. (2 are kids though) We rarely spend any time in our room so didn't see the need to spend the extra money there (I'd rather spend it other places on the ship!) If you normally stay in the AS then I really wouldn't worry about cat. 11 or 12. We usually stay at the Poly and have booked a Cat. 11 for another 7 day!

We have done 2 3 days now. Our first was with our kids and my whole family as part of the land/sea package. I agree when people say its too short to do everything, but what you get is 3 great days. Our second 3 day was just DH & myself. We went back to do the rest of the stuff we couldnt do with the kids. Of course a 4 or 7 day is better than a 3 but if thats all you can swing whether its because of time or money, or if thats all you want to start off with, I still think its well worth it. 3 days on the ship is better than 3 days at home.
Parasailing is 70.00 per person.
We had a cat 10, secret porthole room on that cruise, but on our 1st we had a cat 11 with 4 people. We never had a problem with space or darkness. If I couldnt get a SPH again, Id go back to the 11.
