DH is pushing for us to get 2 dogs from the pound

So how's it going???

As far as food - she prefers wet. She will eat the dry mixed with the wet so that's what she is eating now.

She has no manners at all and it looks like she has never been walked on a leash. She pulls like crazy. That will just take time.

She is very good natured and playful.

She's adorable!!! :)
We used to break an egg, scramble it and then pour it (raw) over our dogs food, it helped when he was having allergy issues, you may consider trying that to get her to transition to the dry food. And yes, as a PP mentioned, see if her teeth are good, if she's having tooth pain she won't want kibble.
A good trainer can help with manners and leash training and yes, time will also help. :)

A shelter dog that doesn't eat dry food! How funny! Did the shelter recommend a trainer? Sometimes they will work with certain trainers that will reduce their rates for pound puppies. Or, I wonder if we can find a dog trainer right here on the Dis!

Her teeth are fine. The vet saw her the day we picked her up. Yes, the shelter did recommend a trainer (several, in fact), but we've had hurricane issues (nothing serious-just stuck in the house for a couple of days) so we have not contacted them yet.

Sometimes if our dog has a cold we mix some chicken broth with her dry food, she really likes it and that might be cheaper than buying wet food.

Have you tried walking her before giving her her food? My trainer taught us to have a "pack walk" before we fed her, where we walked at a quick pace for 15-20 minutes (only stopping for a potty break). When we get back we fill her bowl with the right amount of food, touch the food with our hands and then put it down. Both my dogs now finish their food without having to put some goodies in!

Glad it's going well. Try the Gentle Leader, it makes them walk so much better!

So I hope no news is good news?

Pretty much.

She is fitting right in. We compromised with the food and are mixing half a can with the dry 2X per day. That is not as expensive and she seems to like it. She is learning to walk on leash and slowly getting better. I actually felt confident enough today to let DD14 walk her alone and that went well.

She has had a couple of accidents in the house, but I think that is also a learning thing (both for us to learn her signals and for her to learn ours). She is a very good dog overall.

Thank you for adopting a dog from the shelter!:)

So many dogs end up in the shelter through no faults of their own - owner can no longer care for them due to serious illness, owner moving to nursing homes, owner losing their homes due to foreclosures, etc.
