DH is a mailman...neither snow nor rain-Jan '11 TR (UPDATE 3/31)

All caught up! :woohoo:

What a nail-biter of a journey to Orlando! I would have been beside myself in the line at the airport and hearing all the cancellations! Glad you finally made it!

Ah, how well I remember those CBR flags! :goodvibes

Sunshine Seasons has key lime pie? Now, I know how to entice Charles to eat there on our upcoming trip! :thumbsup2

I feel your pain about the unappreciative child -- I was one, too. My poor parents. :sad2:

It was very unsettling waiting to take off. I liked Sunshine Seasons...they have different foods for everyone to eat something a little different. Also, they have a little bakery section for breakfast treats.

I am so glad to see that you made it, I was worried that the snow would have kept you grounded. I can't wait to hear more of your trip, I hope you had a good time.

Welcome over! I have to see how your PTR is going...I haven't been over in a while. What's your weather like? If it is still hot in Florida in Sept will it be difficult for you?

The weather in Australia has been insane. Where I am we are very lucky to have escaped all of the natural disasters. Most of the East coast of Australia has spent months with flooding affecting most of the states. I live in Sydney and we seem to be the only place on the east to have come out unscathed. Queensland had horrific floods, and then last week had a Cyclone hit it that was a similar size to Hurricane Katrina. I heard in America you had serious snow storms recently. The weather just seems to be going in extremes at the moment, all over the world. A few days ago in Sydney it was 42.00° Celsius which is 107.60° Fahrenheit. So I think I will be fine adjusting to Florida temps, and we have it humid here as well. It must be very nice for you to escape the snow and cold to go to florida where it is warmer.

What could be better than waking up in Disney?

a. waking up in Disney and seeing a giraffe off your balcony
b. waking up in Disney in Jan. and putting on shorts
c. waking up in Disney knowing you are going to the Magic Kingdom
d. waking up in Disney on your first day knowing it's the beginning of your vacation.

I know, you want a choice "e" all of the above...

Nope, folks...can't do it.

Choice "a" would have been so very cool, and really should have been an answer. Unfortunatley, the reality was that we only once saw giraffes off to the right basically on another savanna. I was excited to stay SV and thought it would be cool to do once. I've read instances where other people will ONLY stay SV. Not us. We saw some birds on our savannah, and nothing against the birds, but they weren't as exciting as say a giraffe. A crowned crane maybe...not worth the extra points. It wasn't as disappointing as I thought; it was too cold to be on the balcony anyway!

Choice "b" was not the case for me. Too chilly at 40, with an afternoon high of 60. Yes, however, my girls and dh did indeed wear shorts most of the trip. So this would be an answer of theirs. My daughters actually said it would be like Disney if they couldn't wear shorts.

Choice "c" now we are getting somewhere. While I am at it choice "d" is correct also. So "on with the show"

Dh and I grabbed coffee (he did get cream from Mara the night before...)
and off we went to EMH at MK. The bus was already at the bus stop. After a short ride on the bus, we arrived at the park, went through bag check and before I knew it I was looking at:

1174990952_bC9xK-L.jpg

I made my family wait and get a family shot by the photopass photographer:

While we waited for another family (or two) - wow, my family was patient - I took this

1174991293_GfwLB-L.jpg

The photopass photographer took this for us while waiting for it to pass to take our picture...

The low crowds helped us to stop and not rush so much...dh and I saw this guy and wanted a picture!

1174992879_ieasd-L.jpg

He made a licking sound and gesture upon taking my hand...and I forgot the cardinal rule (leave alone the head...) and went to ruffle his head. The handler reminded me (kindly) to not touch the head... :headache: I couldn't believe I even reached up. DUH!

Feeling like a dope, I followed my family to Space Mountain. While in Space Mountain, I texted my friend to tell her my toes were cold. (I was rubbing Disney in just a little...) She assured me they would warm up.

After space, dh's eyes lit up...his favorite characters were visiting with a family so short wait for us.

1174994271_XLD6q-L.jpg

This was my other really-I-am-not-this-stupid moments on the trip (I think these two are it- and they happened in less than ten minutes of another...)

I mixed up Chip and Dale. I even learned a little mnemonic device (choc chip) to remember and still messed up. :rolleyes1 Both of them were very forgiving as I apologized multiple times. I don't think I will confuse them again, and I think I redeemed myself later on a different day...

While my family went back on SM, I took some shots...

How can you not love January?

1174997394_8Q7bZ-L.jpg

We next headed to get some breakfast

1174998387_UkV9M-L.jpg

We shared egg and cheese croissants, a chocolate croissant and a cinnamon bun.
1174999679_4qDeH-L.jpg

Again, I swore I took a pic of the darn cinnamon roll…It could feed a family, but I don’t have one?

Did you notice that it was half a sandwich and food already disturbed...Please get used to this. Nearly every time we ate, I was so hungry that I would begin to eat and then say...oh wait, I have to take a pic.

I noticed something I really didn't think I should see -

Crowd shot at Liberty Square (or low crowd shot...)

1175002573_8mV4s-L.jpg

Stop in the restroom-isn't this lovely?

1175004143_GQQJq-L.jpg

A visit to a little shop - where Hannah wanted a similar pose as her sister's on the Boardwalk from summer...

1175004552_me6x7-L.jpg

After a couple of rides on BTMR

1175006028_3FLHw-L.jpg

Yes, I took pics on the ride...

1175007130_9Muqz-L.jpg

Dh and girls went back to SM, and I went on a photo tour of Fantasyland. Now, I almost rode Dumbo, just to get pics of construction, but I was too chicken. I thought I would look ridiculous riding Dumbo without kids, and in the second thought, I felt like I would be looked at by others as doing something bad (taking pictures of behind the scenes.)

After my tour, I met up with the family and we decided to do Tomorrowland Speedway. (Why, why, why--this was the longest wait maybe 30 minutes. I know, I shouldn't complain...but when you walk on everything else.

Why in line dh noticed...
1174872583_r2KER-L.jpg

Again, Why, why, why?

After this, the girls wanted to go back and swim...As we left MK (about 11 am)

And we arrived at our stop, and within five minutes, we were on our way back to AKV...

Great TR!!

I love your pics:thumbsup2

How did you find the tour groups? We toured in July and found the tour groups from Bazil to be horrible and everywhere. I have heard that January is another month that has tour groups.

Wow! 107 oh.my...You will be fine in Sept - even if there is a heat wave! I am glad that you are avoiding the terrible disasters. Fortunately, we live in an area that isn't prone to natural disasters. The snow here hasn't been bad at all. Even the day we left it was only an inconvience to people. Chicago was hit really hard with cars just parked on the highway. Escaping to warmer weather was very nice for us.

Great TR!!

Hello, welcome, and thank you! :wizard:

We only noticed one tour group (my daughter claims to have seen three..) I guess we picked the right parks on the right days. I did read about someone who was there when we were and she was lamenting over the groups. I have a pic of the one we ran into which will show up later.

We also travel in July and just go the other way when we see them. I think EMH help with avoiding them also. Maybe they avoid the park with EMH? I like that strategy - I hope it's true. :lmao:

What a great update! So many comments...

First of all - what cute photo of you guys with my buddies Chip N Dale! They are at FW every night so we go waaaayyyy back. :rotfl:

I'm with DH and the DDs - gotta wear shorts a Disney! Even if you gotta top it off with a hoodie.

January crowds are crazy small! Holy cow! What a nice advantage. Did you find anything was closed (or shorter hours) or occured less frequently (parades, bus routes) because of the lower number of people? I've only been in July or at Christmas.

Nice shots of the Fantasyland expansion - with a 3yo, we are very anxious for that to open! I can't believe you didn't ride Dumbo and get us some shots 007! Chicken! :scared1: I do think DD will be very interested in that Be Our Guest restaurant. Look out, Cinderella!

Thanks for the shot and sweet comment at the launch - you made me "more than wave" too.

Can't wait to read more - you're really making me want a vacation! :woohoo:

Me again - two more things.
What in the world was that woman thinking wearing heels?! Really!! Maybe she was trying to get a date with the Mouse! :lmao:

And - was that fireworks during the day? Or is that part of one of the shows they do out there?

Joining in! Loving your trip report so far!!

:welcome: thank you!

nice update!!!!! I love all the FL pics :) The breakfast looks yummy too!!!

I went back to Main St another time for some yummies, but let me not get ahead of myself!

Hopefully, you can spend more time with them on your next visit...I think we should work on seeing them in a different location. Dh does get so excited!

I was more than happy to wear jeans. Heck, I would have worn my hat had it been cold enough. It is still Disney even in the cold! (I did oddly enough miss the heat...)

Buses were amazing! Splash was down (they installed lap bars), Kali was down, but reopened on Sat or Sun, we made a special trip there. Primeval Whirl was also down. I think parades were all normal...park hours were shorter. HS closed at 7 most nights and MK at 8. It worked out better for us, so we weren't ---okay, the girls weren't exhausted...dh and I were, anyway!

I really was a chicken...I will redeem myself in the summer, but you will be able to ride Dumbo before me!

Thanks for the shot and sweet comment at the launch - you made me "more than wave" too.

I think I have a better shot, but I am not sure... Can the boat dock be seen from the monorail, and is it in between the Contemporary and the TTC stops?

Can't wait to read more - you're really making me want a vacation! :woohoo:

Good thing you have a ticker. :cool1:
Me again - two more things.
What in the world was that woman thinking wearing heels?! Really!! Maybe she was trying to get a date with the Mouse! :lmao:

It was odd because her family (parents, dh etc) all had on normal Disney attire. I asked dh if he thought her husband told her she was ridiculous... I couldn't believe her mother didn't say anything. My mom would look at me and laugh every couple of minutes. Also, her daughter was three or four, and she kept getting up into Mommy's arms.

And - was that fireworks during the day? Or is that part of one of the shows they do out there?

I think it is the Dream Along with Mickey Castle show...

I did, I did see that commercial during the Super Bowl! :lmao: I told Charles afterwards that I wanted a Passat.

Great morning at the Magic Kingdom! I couldn't believe it when you said you left around 11 -- it seemed like you must have been there so much longer considering how much you got done. There's definitely something to be said about January.

Too funny about the gold high heels! Who wears those to tour a theme park?? Ridiculous!

We'll forgive you for not being a rule breaker and taking pictures behind-the-scenes. LOL!

Have just come across your TR and what a journey to the airport! Am glad you still managed to make it to Orlando on time.

Love the pictures of Epcot and MK - what a great time to go to Disney. The crowds look non-existant and you managed to get through a lot!
