DH, DS & DM Flying question

We booked the bounceback offer to go back down next September with my parents & us. My dad is not really keen on flying, he would rather drive. I think he's afraid & just won't admit it.

I don't have a problem driving down with him, I actually don't like flying & would prefer to have our car there, but my DH & my DM don't want to & my DS is awful in the car, gets car sick, & can't handle sitting for that long.

So if the 3 of them fly out of Buffalo & my dad & I drive, will my DH run into problems at the border if I'm not with them because of my son?

TIA :)

:thumbsup2If you send DH off with a letter signed by you (preferably notarized) your hubby shouldn't have any trouble crossing the border or with US authorities.

When did you get a bounceback offer? We looked while we were at All Stars recently and didn't see the offer///

It was just sitting on our table in our room at CBR. I had taken the one on this site just in case but we had one in our room. We were there Sept 26-Oct 3.

It is only a problem when you cross the border. If both parents drive to Buffalo together with the child there is no need to have the extra paperwork. If you are crossing the border at different times you need the extra paperwork. This applies to leaving Canada as well as returning home.

We would be crossing separately. My dad & I would leave on the Friday, while they would fly out on Sat. 24 hours to drive, over 2 days.

Just dawned on me that my cousin is the union president for the border guards in Sarnia, I should probably check with him on what is exactly required.

Just found out from my cousin who is a border guard at Sarnia that if there is no divorce or separation a regular letter from the other parent with a contact # is sufficient. It also does not have to be notarized as they don't see that as proof of anything because they are easily fabricated. This is only if the parents are still married.

When I used to cross the boarder with one of my parents (before I was 18) my other parents had to send a signed note with me giving me permission to cross over the boarder, to go to (disney world), the dates I would be gone and who I was going with. Also I suggest adding contact information to the end of the letter because once I had the boarder guard pull us over until he got a hold of my mom to make sure it was legit.

Yes, my cousin gave me a whole run down of what happens when a minor crosses without one of the parents. Pretty much explained what exactly the questions they ask mean, etc, what they scan passports for, etc. if nothing out of the ordinary happens you are usually good to go. He said a contact phone # is sufficient.
