Ok, the thing is, my DH is a big chicken. He doesn't do any thrill rides, just the simulator type stuff. I have been begging him to try RRC, telling him that, because it is in the dark, it won't be so bad.

So, last night he says to me, "I'll go on it if you try a raw oyster." Ok, YUCK! I don't do seafood at all. The thought of putting a raw ANYTHING in my mouth gags me. BUT...I really want him to ride this.

Honestly...what does an oyster taste like? Is there anything to compare it to? I have a pretty strong gag reflex & don't want to end up getting "sick" in the middle of a restaurant!

WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

I love raw oysters. Just make sure you have a cracker and some Tabasco...you might be surprised at how good they are.

Make sure they're COLD and you eat it all in one bite. Don't try taking a tiny nibble off of it because it won't work. There's no ladylike way to eat a raw oyster. ;)

As far as taste, I would have to say they taste more 'salty' than anything else.

Salty, like cold ocean water. Briny. Particularly good on a crisp cracker with a bit of horseradish and a tiney squeeze of lemon. But, like grits or snails, a food which tends to elicit passionate love or great revulsion.

I ADORE raw oysters! If you want to just get it over with, try a small one, put a bit of cocktail sauce on it, and swallow it whole. They have a 'saltwater' taste, plus a taste you can compare to nothing else. I can eat a million of them!

So...you guys are saying I should just suck it up (pun intended, lol) & go for it? What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right?

Oysters make me gag. The sight of boogers on a kids face makes me gaga.
My thoughts (which is only my opinion) is that neither of you compromise yourselves to do anything that allows you to feel uncomfortable.

With that being said, I will be riding RnR with my best friend when I go in May and I am not a coaster person at all. But it was my choice, not her coaxing. :)

Wouldn't do it. No way.

I have a very strong gag reflex and can throw up very easily with food or drink I find disgusting. Raw oysters definately would fall into that disgusting category.

If my DH didn't ride RRC I would take him up on his bet in a heartbeat. I can't stand the idea of a raw oysters but if it would get him to ride with me I would be all over it!!! So my vote is do it!

::yes:: I totally agree.

Ok, I am leaning towards taking him up on it. I figure I dowse the nasty little loogie with tons of tabasco (love that stuff) & swallow it whole. No chewing. I might get it down if I don't have to chew it. Plus, I could always hold my nose!

I wouldn't do it. RnR is fun beyond belief, imo.

DH and I stopped doing "tit for tat" compromises awhile ago and are happier.:sunny:

Much better to have your dh become "brave" and get on the coaster for YOU...than to do something uncomfortable for it.

And yet you like them? :crazy2:

As I have just demonstrated!

I'm sorry, I'm sorry. To each his own! DH loves them, and I just find the whole concept entertaining! I wish I could eat them, but I'm just a fraidy cat when it comes to food outside my comfort zone.

Become brave...hehehehe! That "ain't gonna happen." We got him on a real coaster 2 summers ago. Here in NY, Lake George, called the Boomerang. He screamed like a girl in a pink dress & pigtails. Hated it. I know RnR will be slightly tamer, & being in the dark, thought it would be easier for him.

It's not really "tit for tat," well, maybe. Either way, ds & I really want him to do it, so I am feeling like it is worth it. BTW, ds is 8--a thrill seeking freak, like me.

DEFINITELY DON'T CHEW IT!!! :crazy2:

I'm not a fan of raw oysters, and DH doesn't ride the thrill rides either. So I go on them alone.

But if your DH is willing to try, eating ONE raw oyster is a small price to pay...

it's not bad with tobasco, or lemon juice...I wouldn't use a cracker (harder to swallow quickly). I would just get it ready in the shell, and let it slide right down. All you'll really "taste" is the tobasco and maybe some saltiness.

Let us know how it goes!!

Counter with "I double Dog dare you"

Never had oysters, so can't help you there.

Well...OK...happy slurping...:scared:

If he doesn't like RnR...then there is no hope!!!:rotfl2:

I LOVE raw oysters! Since you are nervous about trying one, here is some advice:

Many times you will have a choice of what type of oysters you want. The smallest oyster I can think of is the Kumamoto oyster. It's from the west coast. You could absolutely swallow this whole, no problem. Some of the other oysters are really too big to swallow without chewing a bit. My favorite oysters are Wellfleets, but I could not swallow this one without chewing.

Make sure the oysters are very cold. There is nothing worse than a lukewarm oyster.

I like to eat my oysters plain, or with just a spritz of lemon. If you are concerned about not liking the flavor, try your oyster with horseradish, cocktail sauce, or tabasco if you like spicy things. These sauces will mostly cover the taste of the oyster (which is why I don't like to use them!).

As for flavor, the taste varies depending on what type of oyster you are eating. Mostly it tastes like saltwater, sometimes a little metallic, sometimes a little sweet.

You can do it! Good luck, and have fun on Rock n' Roller Coster!

I would take him up on it, but make him go first!!! AND I would make sure where ever you go for the RAW oyster is a good resteraunt... nothing worse than a bad oyster...

Does Cape May have raw oysters?? Im not sure, but you could tell him you were told they have them, and then when they dont, say Oh well, we tried! :rotfl:

Absolutely, do it! Try everything in life twice, just to make sure. :teeth:
