DGD won't be able to go back to school on Monday..

:tink: Continued prayers for you lil Gdaughter.

Bless her heart! I am sorry she cannot go back to school yet, but very glad she is on the road to recovery. :goodvibes

My lil 5yo DGSon had his T&A removed 5 yrs ago. Sad to say, it was not a fun time and a much longer recovery than we were led to believe. He was scared and crying soon as he woke up when he discovered he could only squeak and not talk. :worried:

He was miserable for a whole week at least. The morns were better, but by aftn. he was in bed, in pain. It would have been next to impossible W/O alternating regular over the counter tynelol and motrin. After several days of this, we took a flash light to see what was causing so much pain - OMG, we were in shock over lazer burn of entire throat area. :sad1:

We also stressed over his diet, as with motrin he needed food, and he simply did not want to eat. Like you, we tried anything...ice crm, popcicles chips, gatoraid, pudding, jello, warm CN soup, etc. After these got old, finally got him to eat homemade MM pancakes and thinly spread PNB snd. WO crust, cut in cute shapes. :goodvibes

Hang in there C.Ann, I know how difficult it is to worry over a Gchild. One day very soon she will wake up 'happy and back to her old self', and this will all be a bad memory. :flower3:

:grouphug: To all her caregivers.

Actually she's doing VERY well today - but then this has happened before - and suddenly the next day - or in the middle of the night she's in excruciating pain..

Just a little while ago I looked down her throat with a flashlight and she's got aways to go before that area scabs up and falls off..

Today she's eating something new - cottage cheese! Last night she had mashed potatoes and applesauce - and all the other usual soft things: ice cream; pudding; etc..

Looks like hopefully she'll make it back to school on the 13th - just in time for the Valentine's Day party on the 14th.. Then she finishes out the week and she's off for winter recess..

This week we also have to work on her "100 days" project, so I'm hoping she has more good days than bad.. Any ideas on the "100 days" project that would tie in with having her tonsils and adenoids taken out? LOL Would certainly be original and I bet the teacher would get a big kick out of it.. :teeth:

Thanks for the continued suggestions, good wishes, hugs, and thoughts.. :)

It's been a while since we had tonsils out, so I'm not much help in remembering the details. However, DS had his wisdom teeth out a couple of years ago and had to have a soft diet for a few days. He was about 16, so he was starving! I boiled chicken breasts and cut them very, very fine (pulverized them actually - till it was almost like baby food). Then I made lots of gravy and added some of the chicken and served it over mashed potatoes. I also did the same sort of thing with chipped beef. Macaroni and cheese helped fill him up too. He loves tapioca pudding, so I made a lot of that. I would think you could break up bread with no crust or soft crust and put it in a soup or something to soften it. That would be filling too. Does she like French onion soup? My kids like that with bread in it and a little cheese on top.

DS had his tonsils and adnoids out a couple years ago - he would not eat anything at all - it was bad - I finally went to the store and got him some of those Boost nutritional shakes - he liked the chocolate ones and it was about the only thing he would attempt to drink or eat.

She had her tonsils and adenoids taken out a week ago yesterday.. They used the laser surgery, but the nurse stressed over and over again that not all children heal at the same rate..

The other good thing that came of this conversation with the doctors office is that they put my name in the computer as being able to call and ask questions of the nurse and/or doctor after my DD explained that I'm the one who is taking care of her every day.. (HIPPA laws regulate who they can and can't speak to..)

Oh my goodness. The poor little thing. :( Hopefully she heals up fast.

I remember getting my tonsils and adnoids out as a child....it was so painful. Does she like Jello? I remember all I ate was jello and vegetable broth for 2 weeks. The warm felt better than the cold on my throat.

No - the jello was a bust.. She has been eating chicken noodle soup though - and as I previously posted, mashed potatoes.. I think tonight we're going to try some very well cooked mac & cheese..

Unfortunately she's not a "gravy" person either, so we've been giving her applesauce or something along with the mashed potatoes..

As for the ice cream - she's pretty much had her fill of that - LOL.. Now she's eating yogurt instead.. :)

What about a homemade fruit and yogurt smoothy? You could put fruits that she likes in the freezer. Then pop them in the blender with some yogurt and even add some protein powder (I don't know much about it, but you can buy it at health food stores and vegetarians use a lot of it). Frozen strawberries make a wonderful smoothy and she'd be getting lots of vitamins and calories that way. Just a thought if cold sounds good.

Would you believe my DD and her DH don't even have a blender?

We have lots of Boost here ( I drink it because I don't eat much and my DD drinks it because she's lactose intolerant).. We have chocolate (for DD) and vanilla for me.. I could have swore that I read somewhere though that you shouldn't give those sort of protien drinks to young children because there's too much of something or another in them.. :confused3

Can anyone verify or dispel that?

Thanks for the great suggestions.. Keep them coming! :)
