Just wanted to clarify something with you all...

I have read a post somewhere on the site, where someone was asking about developers points showing up on their points allocation for the year... They were asking if if they would show up EACH year, the reply being developers points don't ever show up You just need to keep track of them yourself..

My question is that I have been in contact with WDW to ask about any incentives that may be on offer & was told $8 discount per point for AKL, $10 discount for SSR or ONE year of extra Developers points equal to the amount of points you buy..

Do they ever give more than one years extra points??
If we decide to go ahead, I am tempted more by the discount myself, as I plan to bank & borrow points for a vacation every 2-3 yrs.

Thanks,
Hazel :)

Hi Hazel,

Brand new member here, bought while on the Magic on the 14 day repo cruise in August. Only read all the finer detail when I got home so with regards to developer points this is what it looks like. They are a once off offer, not directly linked to your account, lasting for one calendar year (we have to use by 27th August 08) and are dealt with manually by member services.

We had a choice of a $8 reduction in each point for AKL (that's the home resort I wanted) or to take double developer points. Well, when I calculated the value of $8 per point (we purchased 160 points) and the value of 320 points, there was no question but we would take the developer points. I knew we were going to go to WDW next August, so I would be able to use the points at that time. I would bank the 160 points and use them in July 2009, with that current years points, giving us another 320 points to play around with.(I'm not 100% sure of all the terminology but August is when our year starts - 1st August to 31st July)

However, the one thing we weren't told was that we had to wait for the 7 month window, as the points are generic points and not linked to your home resort or account at all. And we are unable to transfer them or go on a waitlist (specifically detailed in our contract) to book the time we want next year - our only saving grace is that it is mid to late August so it shouldn't be too bad, then again who knows? It will mean having to ring up each day when we get to the 7 month window, and because they are not linked to your account, MS will have to deal with each day's request on a manual basis - they will not be happy people I imagine.

So after all that, I am sorry I didn't take the reduction in price, we plan to buy more points next year so it would have worked out better for us in the long run.

Hope this helps in some way towards your decision.

Moira.

Double Devolper Points incentive appears to have ended and it is now single points. Once points are confirmed MS dont need to ask again. Also for the 7 month window you will get somewhere, I got SSR for October at two months out just took a couple of calls.

Walsh clan - we have booked previously for mid to late August at 7 months with no problem. We had a choice of all DVC resorts except BCV and even then we could have gone on a wait list and got lucky. Hope that reassures you a bit too :)

Thanks Moira,
I appreciate your advice... :flower3:

Just out of interest, does anyone else think that the $8/$10 dollar discount is a good deal ..???

I know we have a good $ versus £ ratio at the moment, but I am still worried about the high maintainace fees..

Thanks, Hazel :)
